I stopped off at the local gun shop back in March to pick up a handgun I had on lay-a-way. As always I looked to see if they have anything new used guns. They had two 03A3s on the gun rack. One was spotter with a nice stock and scope and the other looked to be in military dress, but the front of the stock was missing.
I took a close look at it and found that it was a Remington with a 3-43 barrel. The metal was in pretty good shape but the bore was not so clean. The price tag was not to bad at $299.99. But if you know me, I hate to pay the marked price.
Well, we haggled back and forth a little and came to a price I was happy with. :D
Here are the pics I took when I got it home.

I've had an old stock at the house for the past 20 years just waiting for this rifle.
The stock came off a 03A3 that my father inlaw built into a sporter back in the 60s.

My friend Roy helped me with the few small parts needed to finish the rifle.

Now I have to take it apart and clean the stock.

Congrats...that was a great deal on your 03-A3, and to have that loose stock laying around made the deal even better. I have one just a tad later than yours with a 4/43 barrel. They are indeed sweet shooting rifles.

Looks great with the replacement stock. You and that Remington 03-A3 were just meant to be.

(rubbing hands together) Ex-cell-ent!

An A3 is amongst the best shooters I ever owned, hope yours works out as well.....also your tale of saving your Uncle's stock may assist me in the never ending battle with the Spousal Unit over my pack rat like habits......

Where'd the front site blade go? it's in one pic but not others.

I noticed the front sight blade missing too. Good on ya for restoring it!

I have an 8/43 Remington 03A3 that appears to be all correct, wonderful rifle - I love it.

Nice restoration! She looks much better now, I'm sure you will enjoy that rifle a lot. Sure is a lot of fun putting them back the way they should be isn't it? ;)

I brought one back myself a while back. Found a nice 03A3 that had been sporterized by Golden state arms back in the 60's. I found a nice replacement stock, added a few coats of tung oil and she was back to beautiful again. The plus side is she will put holes touching each other at 100 yards. The scope is a vintage Weaver K-3 made in El Paso, Tx.

I owned many of those rifles and they kicked a lot for an 06 must have been bad stock design. Maybe I would have spent the 300 on fixing that deck the rifle is on lol

I had to take the front sight blade off so that I could make sure the front band would fit. I left it out because I have to take the gun apart for clean up.
