New poster but enjoy reading the threads. I recently inherited a Remington 1100 s/n N075260V. Remington told me it is a 1979 model. The barrel is stamped "Full" however it looks to have a removable choke (two notches inside barrel). Looking at the history of the 1100, it seems the '79 model was fixed choke. Am I seeing a removable choke? If so, why is the barrel stamped "full"? Possible to swap it for a more open choke? I enjoy skeet but as you can imagine, a full choke is not the best for a beginning skeet shooter. I read that a full choke can make you a better skeet shooter. I am going to have to run with that philosophy since I am not in the position to go out and purchase a skeet gun, as much as I would love to. Any help on if the choke issue would be great.

If it says Full on it, and now has choke tubes?

Somebody had it drilled, reamed, and threaded for choke tubes at some point.

You need to get a choke wrench and remove the tube to see what is written on it.

It could be threaded for Rem-chokes, or it could be threaded for several other brands of choke tubes.

Once you find that out, you can buy whatever choke you want for shooting skeet.

Thanks all. I removed the choke and it is stamped "C.A. Extra Full". I certainly hope this is not a custom choke since the history of the gun is limited at best. I hope the threads match rem choke.

The C.A. marking isn't ringing my chimes tonight.

If worst comes to worst, have a gunsmith measure it.
Or call or send the tube to Carlson's I linked so they can figure out what it is, and sell you the right tubes.

Screwing around with trying different tubes is not a good plan.
The threads are very thin, and easily stripped if you get the wrong one started in the barrel threads wrong.

I also contacted Briley since they do custom tubes. In the meantime, I guess I will get really good at skeet, or really discouraged. Thanks for all your help.

C.A. = Carlson's??????? Maybe???

If you have any of the typical big box stores like Cabela's near you - they sell premade chokes in plastic packaging. You could always buy a few different ones and see if they fit; if not, just return them in their packaging

There ya go!!

I knew C.A. should ring a bell, I just couldn't place it earlier!!

I bet DaleCooper51 nailed it!

If you get really good at Skeet with a super full tube you will be really, really, really good. You can send the tube to Briley and they will identify what it is and call you back and tell you what they have that will fit and do you want to buy any. Some others may do that as well, very probably Mike Orlen, and he installs some Colonial tube systems, but not sure.
Agree with what was stated above. Do not screw around and bugger up the threads.

Thanks. I called Colonial and the lady I talked to said it didn't sound like theirs but again, it I was probably put it a decade or two ago. I think it may be one of theirs. Nevertheless she was pretty helpful and told me to take OD measurements with a caliper and they would find me a match. I'll provide an update later. You all have been more than helpful. Thanks again.

Regardless of what the lady told you on the phone?
The I.D measurement is not going to insure you get the right tubes.

Note the similarity of the Winchester and Remington tubes.
Win-Choke®-style: .812"-32 tpi
Rem™Choke-style: .814"-32 tpi

One will screw in the other, but they are not going to be the right thread length, or maybe even internal bore size.

I would be a lot more comfortable sending the tube to them so they can correctly match it for sure.

Well, if you have a machine shop or gunsmith in your area?

Have somebody measure it I.D., O.D., and thread shank length.
Then slap a thread pitch guage on it.

Then you know exactly what it is, and can tell CA or Carlsons or whoever.

rc

Thread pitch gauge isn't going to do it. Note the Rem and Win tubes have the same thread pitch and are not interchangable. The reason Briley makes you send it to them if they are going to help is because very few people are qualified to take machinist quality dimensions so they can be sure there will be no issues. I only had one tube and sent it to them, and now I have four, and a free little complimentary plastic case. I would similarly trust Mike Orlen. Others may be in the same league, but I will only vouch for those two based on personal experience.

Thanks Virginian, I will try Briley again. I sent them an email about a week ago and haven't heard anything. Maybe they aren't big on email but I will get in touch with them, insure it and send it their way. If you don't mind me asking, what was the ballpark $ for a custom tube from them?
