Hi all,

To anyone who owns a recently-manufactured Remington 1100 Sporting 12 or 20 gauge... can you do me a favor? I'd like to know if there's any way possible to change the cast of the stock by putting homemade shims between the stock and receiver similar to how you can with an 870. I don't want to add an adjustable butt plate or adjustable comb. They are just ugly.

Would someone be willing to take the butt plate or recoil pad off, and either loosen or take off their stock and see for me? How much wiggle room is there inside the stock for the recoil spring tube to move around? Is there any way to modify where the stock bolt goes to add cast?

I have a very old (1968) 1100 field model and the way the stock bolt attaches to the stock (there's a metal flange), there's just no way to add cast-off at all. I'm curious to see if it's any different with recently-made 1100 sporting models. Pics would be great if possible! Thanks for any help you can provide.

Chris

You can bend the recoil spring tube to receiver connection. I don't recommend it, but I have seen it done on more than one occassion. I saw one guy do it with the gun fully assembled. He ended up with 5/8" of cast off, which is what he wanted, and the gun still functioned fine. Most people at least loosened the stock retention nut.
I have also seen people change their mind and bend it back.
I do not think you can change the cast by shimming because all the recoil spring tubes I have seen on 58s, 1100s, and 11-87s have been too tight a fit in the stock to get significant side play.
Good luck.

If you want to go to a lot of trouble you can enlarge the stock hole and bend the stock. Shims are not a good option because of the way the stock fits inside the receiver.

+1 Good advice
