My wife picked up a brand new Remington 1100 Competition with 30" barrel, carbon fiber adjustable stock with recoil reducer, nickel plated receiver, and 5 Briley chokes. She needed a gun with an adjustable stock to get it to fit her correctly so when I saw this one in the gun shop I had to have her look at it. She pooh-poohed it to start with until she mounted the gun! The look on her face was priceless..."this one is coming home with me" she said. :D It's a really sweet looking and shooting gun. So far she has put 200rd through it on the skeet field and is really enjoying shooting it. I know the "B" gun guys will be around to trash the 1100's, but I personally don't think you can go wrong with an 1100. I think Remington has done a great job with the features on this gun for the price point. You get a whole lot of gun for ~$1k. The shop ordered the gun for a customer 7 months ago and the customer came in looked at and said he didn't want it. So the shop priced it to sell...and it did! The only thing better than getting a new gun yourself is having your wife get one and be more excited than you ever been about a new gun! :D:D I would recommend this gun for anyone looking for a new 1100. Just thought I'd share an 1100 experience!

You don't have to convince me, I agree with you. I think the new Sporting models are real nice too. I bought my first 1100 in 1963, and have never bought another brand semi since, although I have tried oodles of them out. I got an early 11-87 in 1987, but didn't like the feel with the then new RemChoke barrel, and sold it in the duck blind. Guy that bought it is a certified O/U lover so he likes the muzzle heavy feel, and it is still his duck gun.
Beretta has built some good guns over that span, as has Browning, but they just didn't feel as good to me.
I hope your wife enjoys her new gun in good health.

Congratulations on your purchase
They are super shotguns. It was my first auto. It's almost a mystique type quality the way everybody loves the feel and handling of them.
For the record I am a Browning guy now, but I still love my 1100

I have the "B" guns you speak of in O/U, but my 1100 was around long before that. Best scores I ever got in trap were with my 1100 Classic Trap. You did good, and your wife will enjoy hers as well I am thinking.

I love my Beretta O/U, but I've loved Remington's a half century longer. And bashing an 1100 here constitutes a hate crime.

Congrats to thy spouse on her new shotgun, but I am issuing a challenge to her.

Wear it out..........

Update...I shot it today!

After 12rds of skeet she finally let me shot it! :D The recoil is on par with my 28ga tubes in my O/U. I was amazed at the lack of recoil! No wonder she likes this gun! It swings nicely and just generally feels like a solid gun. The recoil reduction system does its job. I'm thinking of getting this stock for my 1100! ;) Thanks for the positive comments and I will make sure she attempts to wear it out! :D

Whenever anyone asks about an 1100 for trapshooting/clays, I always think of the great Leo Harrison III who shot an 1100 to the top of ATA trapshooting competition. Back in the day, Leo shot his way to icon status, (all-american) using an 1100. Nowadays, he uses a "better" gun....although i doubt is averages are any better.

Great!

If I go to a semi for clays, and I might, the 1100's on the short list.

KB, Leo's life average is about 98% or better, so you may be right.

The 1100 has always been an excellent shotgun in my opinion and has served well on skeet and trap fields for many years. I hope she always enjoys shooting it.
