Remington 1100 vs 1187

The 12 gauge 11-87 is designed to handle everything from 1-1/8 ounce field loads on up. Many have had issues with light loads. Just because you have one that does not, does not change that fact. It is easily adapted by placing an oversized O ring in front of the gas piston to block the flow of gasses to the compensating valve, much as the barrel seal activator works on the SuperMag and 20 gauge 11-87. Just don't forget to remove it before shooting heavy loads.

I don't own either but have handled quite a few. For whatever reason the 1100 feels better in my hands, for the next guy it could be just the opposite. My next shotgun will be a Remington V3. If I wanted a dedicated clays gun it would be an 1100.

In Remington shotguns I have:
11-87 12 ga
1100 12 ga
11 12 ga
11 20 ga
10 12 ga
1100 12 ga
No 9 28 ga
1894 12 ga
48 12 ga

The last one I got, 3 months ago at a pawn shop for $100 is a 1952 Remington 48 in 12 ga.
Here is a pic.
I got it as is, but it only needed oil. Remington 48 12 ga 1952 $100 1-13-2017.jpg

The 1100 is lighter and to some they are better balanced. the 11-87 will shoot 2 3/4 and 3 inch without adjustment. Both have a reputation of durability and both are popular in trap and other shooting games and have been for decades. With decent care and O ring replacement at times they should last a lifetime. If you are pass shooting or trap I would go 11-87, upland or light loads I would pick 1100.
