Can I put a 2.75" barrle on my 3" 1100 . The reason I would like to try this is because my 1100 will not eject trap loads at all . It has been cleaned very good so a dirty gun isn't the problem . I heard that this will fix it , because the 2.75" barrle has 2 ports and the 3" has only 1 port . Then me and a buddy were thinking maybe it wouldn't be a good idea . He has a barrle I can try .

Next question , is it worth trying , do you think it will work . Or any other ideas I can try .

As far as Remingtons goes. The 2 3/4 inch chamber barrel will work on the 3 inch magnum shotguns.

I hope that your problem is with the action and spring and not with the gas ports.

I had one Model 1100 that had a action that was very hard to open with your bare hand.

They made the magnum models that way to combat the excessive amount of pressure built up by the 3 inch magnum loads.

Almost none of them guns would shoot trap loads.

That was the reason they came out with the model 1187 - which is a model 1100 that was improved in 1987.

Remington has since then came back out with the model 1100 in several trap versions.. But believe me it is not cheap. Like $750 - $1000 depending on grade and finish.

You might consider buying one of their newer model Spartain Shotguns which is about half the price and twice as nice.

I have been thinking about fixing it by buying a Super Black Eagle II . Then I wouldn't have to worry about anything . But man , I sure do love that 1100 and I would love to shoot some skeet with it .

By the way , the action is pretty stiff . That is why I am not sure if just useing another barrle is going to help .

Use a 2 3/4" barrel, it'll work and you will be able to stay with your pet 1100.

A shooter I knew did the same with his and it worked well,

I have an old Remington Model 1100 12 gauge skeet version. It will not eject shells all. Sometimes it will, other times it will not, and them sometimes it will halfway eject them and will get stuck in the action. I would like to know how to fix this.

MWenzel, my 1100 loves a bath now and then when I'm shooting target loads. The leading cause of 1100 malfunctions is a dirty gas system. Clean and lube the rings, O-ring, magazine tube and barrel hanger. Run a paperclip(gently)or pipecleaner thru the gas ports to make sure they are clear, then reassemble correctly, making sure the splits in the two rings are offset from each other. If my 1100 has ever failed to eject, a dirty gas system has always been the problem.

Yes, absolutely, you can put a 2-3/4" chambered barrel on your 1100 magnum!!
I bought an 1100 magnum, new, in 1983. It has always RELIABLY cycled 2-3/4" shells in it's barrel chambered for 3" shells, BUT, it's because the choke is actually X-Full as opposed to the 'Full' marking on the barrel.

With that said. . . the 30" tube is not my cup of tea in the field.
I bought a Hastings 24" barrel with interchangeable choke tubes.
This barrel has been on this 1100 magnum for many, many years.
It cycles EVERYTHING from the lightest 2-3/4" target load to the heavy 'baby magnum' 2-3/4" shells.

The whole secret (actually it's no secret) is to keep your 1100 clean and LIGHTLY lubed.

My 1100 magnum has had literally thousands of shells put through it, and it's just getting 'broken in'.

I hope this helped.

Thanks foxmeadow. Although I try my best to clean my guns often, but I might not be doing enough. I will try that. I appreciate your help.

ebay.com is a good source for used, and sometimes new, Rem barrels.
Do a search there for "1100 barrel". With a little patience & luck you should find what you need.

1100 bbl.

You can absolutely use a 2 3/4 inch bbl on your 3'' reciever.

the only difference is the chamber lenght and gas ports drilled into the bbl. that cycle the action

PUT YOUR 2 3/4 BBL ON AND GO SHOOTING --- ENJOY

porting bbl

DO NOT GET YOUR PORTS CHANGED .If the amount gas is not regulated properly your gun maybe damaged !

Why a used barrel?

It has been my experience that used barrels from eBay are just as expensive (or more) than NEW.

What barrel length are you looking for?
21"
24"
26"
28"
30"
32"

remington.com has the parts catalog for the 1100.

Or, call 1.800.243.9700 M-F 9-5 to get the part # and to order.
