Remington 22lr ammunition?

I also hate the Bolts, haven't shot any in quite a few years now.

Golden Bullet is so-so; definitely not my favorite, but if I was almost out and that's all they had I would go ahead.

I actually like their Vipers when I can find them.

You have to try a little bit of everything. Lots of folks complain about Remington bulk ammo but my experience has been 180 degrees opposite. I burn 2000-3000rds of Golden Bullets a month with nary a problem in any of my two dozen rimfires. Leave the stuff on the shelves if it makes you feel better, I buy all I can. If the stuff wasn't reliable and accurate I wouldn't use it.

Never had an issue with Thunderbolts either but the GB is a better game bullet.

I have had no problems with Remington centerfire ammo--.223, 9mm, .38 Special.

Rimfire?   Dirty and inconsistent, except for the high-end Remington-Eley target stuff.

Of the "BULK PACKS"

Remington= thumbs down (Still have a box of 550) I won't shoot it. Can't even give it away.

Winchester= Not bad. Ten fold better than the Rem stuff though.

Federal= No complaints- Works in all my 22's- Lever, bolt, semi-auto(10/22).

CCI was very good too, if I remember, but haven't tried it in a few years.

I wonder how it is possible for some people to have terrible results with it and others to have fine results. I do not recall ever getting through a box of 50 Remington rimfires without several failures to fire, regardless of the arm used. And yet I have no reason to disbelieve the folks who shoot them by the thousands without problem. How can this be possible?

For one thing some folks define accuracy a whole lot different than others. My idea for accuracy is 1/4 to 1/2 inch at 50 yds, and 1 to 1 1/2 inch at 100 yds for .22 rimfire.

I see guys with rifles shooting at 8 inch paper plates at 25 and 50 yds, never hitting one, just having a ball. Maybe the noise makes them happy, who knowes.

I've lucked out on the Golden Bullets. More duds than anything else, but not enough to count it as unacceptable for the range. Maybe just for the price. Mostly, I prefer to buy Winchester DynaPoints and Federal everything because of the accuracy.

The Thunderbolts are, like everyone else said, junk. Unacceptable duds for the price, overlubed with the wrong stuff because it still leads, and the only things that have ever jammed up my Mk3 through out-of-spec ammo and just plain gunk, and not accurate from anything.

Their standard-velocity, high-priced 'Target'? I get equal or better accuracy from any $1.50/box stuff from anyone else, from everything I've shot it out of. If I want accurate, I go to Wolf Match or even Winchester DynaPoint bulk.

I shoot Remington ammo and do have occasional fail to fires (FTF's). I don't worry about it plinking or at the range. It shoots okay; not great. I commonly do about 0.75" groups or slightly less with Thunderbolts at 50-yds. Golden bullets shoot a bit better but not much. That is good enough for the majority of my shooting. If I want match ammo, I pay for it.

I think you should try as many types of ammo as you can with your particular firearm and see how it does under range conditions. If the cheap ammo works for your needs, I would choose it every time. Why pay double or triple or more for ammo when you don't need the accuracy? It is a practical consideration.

Sometimes it is the firearm that causes the FTF.

At the range where I shoot a lot, there is generally a lot of .22 brass on the ground and quite a few unfired rounds. I started picking them up out of curiosity one day to see why there were on the ground (dropped, duds, whatever). I noticed there were a LOT of Remington duds, probably 80% of the rounds. That was enough for me to decide that my experience with Remington was not unique. All I buy now is Federal and no more problems.

I do shoot Remington ammo. But if I have a choice when buying new rimfire ammo, I will generally choose Federal or CCI everytime if the cost is similar. The quality on the hyper velocity ammo tends to be better and it is generally more expensive than the promotional stuff.

Bought a yellow/green box of the bulk Remington .22lr ammo, 2 or more out of every magazine was a dud. I gave them to a friend with a Beretta Neos and every last one fired for him. My .22 Colt Challenger did not like them.

i despise golden bullets...they leave your fingers all gold colored

besides they run 22 bucks a brick for 525 rnds while federal bulk pack is much cleaner, more reliable and its 550 rnds for 18 bucks

ditto on the Remington boycott!
30 years and more ago they made some of the best target 22 ammo out there. Some of their stnd velocity ammo is extremely accurate, if you can live with the dud percentage. I have a couple bricks of stnd velocity that will outshoot Lapua and Eley in one of my target pistols. I save that stuff for regional and national matches, but only for the slow fire stage. I know that out of 30 rounds of slow fire I will have 1 or 2 duds. In the 10 rds in 10 minutes slow fire stage I have ample time to eject it and still get a shot off.

In timed and rapid fire I have settled on using nothing but CCI Stnd Velocity. In firing 10s of thousands of rounds of CCI I have yet to have one dud. It's hard to beat that kind of confidence in your ammo.

FWIW

Winchester's Super-X for .22WMR is okay; at least it fires.

Are you nuts? You can't buy any better.

Remington ammo is JUNK! The only Remingtons I've ever had luck with were shotgun shells.

I have had alot of problems with standard Remington ammo. The only Remington ammo that i use if need be, is the Thunderblt ammo. i boutght a box of standard Rem ammo and had a lot of FTF's. The Thunderbolt seems to be around 3 to 4 % FTF, which is a lot better than the 10 to 15% of standard Rem ammo. And this is out of my Buckmark Camper, Marlin mod 60, and a Mossberg bolt action. So I know it is not a weapon problem.

98% of the Remington .22 bulk pack I have shot has been good ammo. It's that 2% that scares me - I stopped shooting it when the case rim blew off and knocked the magazine out of my semiautomatic rifle.

I was at the range Thursday and had a guy with a Savage semi auto shooting GB 550 pack ammo and then i hear a rather large bang for a .22lr and alot of smoke coming from under his gun. He was older and startled and i had to walk over and tell him he had an issue before he came to his senses.
The round 3/4 the way chambered and then smooshed like an accordion and fired out of battery and blew most of the metal holding the rim blown out.

I don't know how to explain what transpired to cause this but i never seen a case smoosh up like someone stood on an empty beer can and stomped it.

The oddest part is there was absolutely NO primer strikes on that round, It went off by concussion of the receiver hitting it from behind.

I stopped buying Remington GB's last year, This guy stopped buying them Thursday.

Eley Match has the Remington name on it, but I doubt they have much to do with its production. That stuff is very accurate in my Marlins (880 and two 60's). Their bulk ammo is crap. Buy Fed. bulk for general plinking and handgun practice.

As Charlie Brown says: "GOOD GRIEF!"
Most of the Remington ammo I have (.22) is their Standard Velocity stuff that I was doing comparison tests on several years ago. No problems, but it was several years ago (10+). I mainly use the Winchester Wildcats, some of which are over 15 yrs old. High velocity and Standard Velocity stuff has never given me a problem, but the "Hyper" or "Super" speed stuff, esp. the ones with "truncated cones" were frequent problems. The cones jammed frequently, and being hyper velocity just made them worse. Most hypers are going so fast, they have problems engaging the rifling so they don't spin.

Thats just Eley ammo repackaged with the Remington name on it and usually a few dollars higher price.

i usually buy peters 22lr ammo. i believe that peters is made buy remington. I dont know about the thunderbolts but i am happy with peters
