Where in the world is the serial number. i looked over that thing for 15 minutes and couldn't find one.

i didn't take it apart, but i thought it had to be visible when put together.

could it be somewhere hidden under the stock?

anyone know what years these guns were made???

The 550-1 was made from 1946 to 1970. Most .22 rifles and inexpensive shotguns made prior to the 1968 law had no serial numbers.

I learned to shoot on the 550-1. Great rifle. I just retrieved it from my dad's care after about 10 years. Shot just like it never left my cheek. My son was impressed with the "old " rifle that would not miss the target.

anyway of telling when it was made??

it's my grandfathers. i was taking inventory of his firearms this evening. i haven't shot the 550-1 but we are going to take it out tomorrow

Mine was purchased in 1954 or so. There is no way to date these that I know of. My dad was 20 or 20 at that time and grandad told him there was a special on at Sears, where he worked.
