Hello Everyone,

I as of late have been interested in purchasing a EAA Saiga rifle w/16" barrel in 7.62 x 39mm.

I have the oppurtunity to trade my Remington 552 (w/ a little simmons scope) even for the Saiga. The Remington is in like new condition. Performs great, and is a lot of fun to shoot. One of the most important factors is that it's so cheap to shoot a lot of ammo in one range session.

I know its always good to have a .22 plinker, but the 7.62 x 39mm is really inexpensive to shoot as well. So my thoughts are, might as well have the 7.62 x 39mm over the .22. Just because the 7.62 x 39mm is a little more multi-purpose.

Just looking on thoughts and opinions really. I'm not really sure what I want to do yet.

So here are my options:

Trade the Remington for the Saiga tomorrow....and be on the range with it by the early afternoon. :D

-or-

Keep the Remington, and wait a few weeks until my finances allow me to purchase the Saiga.

So what do you all think? Just curious as to what someone else would do if presented with the same situation.

Thanks for your responses,

~Michael

One more thing, How reliable are the Saiga's?

In my opinion, if your finances in a few weeks would permit you to keep the Remington and buy the Saiga, I'd wait a few weeks. Especially if you don't have another .22.

Saigas are Kalashnikovs, and well made ones at that. They are very reliable. I have a Saiga that was converted to look like an AK-103 and it runs like a top.

Dump that Remington POS(yes--I HAD one before) and get the Saiga------then when finances permit in a couple weeks---get a Ruger 10/22.

I bought my Rem 552 about 20 years ago and it has performed flawlessly since then. It is the most accurate rifle I own. If I ever had to sell my rifles, it would be the last to go. I would recommend keeping it and saving up for the other rifle.
