I have a rem 700 222 rem. serial #138061 , barrel stamp29 m C., alloy checkered butt plate, the top of the rear action is notched , unlike any 700 I have seen. The blueing is perfect and shiny but the floor plate and trigger guard are a beautiful matte color ,and the safety has a larger more rectangle shaped knob on it than the 700s I am familiar with. It has a b&l balvar 8a scope on it . The scope has no adjustments on it, adj. are made via the bases. This is pretty funky. The scope is crystal clear and the whole unit is like brand new.Any guesses on d.o.b and value. Either i start loading 222 and shoot the heck out of it or sell and buy something else. I am covered up with 22 cal. , but this one intrigues me.

I found on another forum that the number 0 in the serial might be the letter O. If that's the case, it might be from 77 or 94.

Either way, a 222 is a heck of a varmint round. My dad had one and it was a tack driver. We ended up rebarreling it to a 223 Ackley and never looked back.

You are sure that it is stamped M700 on the receiver left side, and not M722?

Regardless, try it out to see how it shoots, you may be pleasantly surprised.

yes sir model 700 receiver . The barrel does not have all of the "modern" silly warnings stamped on it. I dont know when that started . Thanks

Ive seen one of those 700s, my girlfriends father has one that came from HIS father. I thought it was a 722, but the reciever actually says 700 lol. Anyway I cant be much help with dating the rifle, but id guess its a pretty early run (or some one, put a 722/21, trigger on a 700 mayhap?). Ive only ever seen that one .243 with that larger squarish saftey. The Balvar, scope im actually kinda familiar with. I used a gun with one of those for a bit, wasnt mine so i had to give it back, but i actually rather liked it. Im enamored to mechanical things, and those adjustable mounts tickle me.
