The swede should offer longer barrel life. 'nother thing to consider is the 110s, tho they are a long action, have a relatively short magazine box 3.3-3.4 i think, well i guess thats a "standard" length action lol. The Swede is enough shorter that you can load the really long 140+ VLD bullets out of the powder, i think with the 6.5-06 youd be having to cram them back in the case a ways.

I decided to mess with quickloads a bit....my quickloads data is returning a max velocity of 2800 and change running at 55K for the 6.5x55 and RL-22 and a 3.15 coal...which will ALMOST fit into a savage short action mag box....

The 6.5-06 looks to break 2900 with a few different powders at the 55K psi limit (the limit for the 6.5-06Asquare in QL is 65K)...COAL of 3.47

6.5-06 burns about 15grn more powder also.

both guns 22" barrels and berger 140 Hybrids.

I hadn't thrown the caliper in there yet, but the mag does seem a little short for a long loaded 6.5-06 cartridge, which is why the swede makes so much sense to me. I am also thinking about a 35 whelen for this rifle, gotta love a simple barrel swap for versatility! I do like the swede more than the 260 or the creedmore, seems like the extra case capacity can only help if you really want to push the range out there...

That's what I thought, but it didn't pan out. I was topping out around CB900F's velocity out of the 22 in barrel with 140gr SST's and H4350 in prvi brass, over any published data I could find. Are you loading above 2,800 fps in a 22in 6.5x55? What components? Maybe I would have gotten higher velocities with VV powders or some such. Either way, I decided that in a long action, I might as well just use a .270, which had plenty of full pressure load data, and if the notion struck me, I could always load it down to 6.5x55 velocities.

I don't get why people get wrapped around the axle about the 6.5 CM, and the .260. They are basically ballistically identical, the main differences to me are that the execution of the CM has been much better than the .260 (having one standard twist rate comes to mind). I bought my first CM because I wanted to start shooting the local PRS style match, and the RPR so-chambered was the best low cost way to start. Has the CM bestowed any magical shooting abilities on me? No, hell I could use the same dope as a couple of the .260 shooters in the club out to 700yds anyway, but it works as well as anything else for my purposes, was cheap to get into and is easy to load for. I bought my second CM because I already loaded for the first and liked the round.

Shoot what you want, there's no reason to get all excited about what the head stamp on your case says.

No, my 140 at 2900 is all speculation. 4350 is however at the slow end for the Swede, which could have been a factor. I have found Varget and 4064 to be the right powders but mine is a sporterized artillery model Swedish Mauser, the ones CAI brought in before the 1968 GCA, 17.5" barrel with a 1" pinned extension to be legal pre GCA. I don't get anything like those velocities, more like 2650 with 140 grs but it is absurdly accurate.

I wonder if the very long throat in that 700 was allowing some gas blow-by and messing up combustion efficiency?

I am a late comer to the .270 Win. Always thought it was overly hyped, pimped out by Jack O'Connor, and how different from the 30-06 could it be? Then, I was looking at custom 6.5-06 rifles and it dawned on me that .264/06 wasn't much different to .277/06. Since then I have really come to appreciate the .270/130 gr combo. Antelope slayer. Still love my Swede and its remarkable accuracy, but I have a 24" Thompson/Center Venture in 270 that can only be faulted for its plain Jane looks. A really remarkable shooter.
