I just got a used 700 in 308. I have wanted a rifle like this for sometime Now I want to slowly but surely(as Money allows) accessorize it..It came with a Nikon scope and a bipod..is there any thing else out there I know almost nothing about rifles..just give me some ideas..I dont want useless trinklets..but things that will make it more accurate and just plain better

A cleaning kit might help keep it cleaner. I'd call that an improvement...lol

I'd also grab a good sling.

When I bought mine (30-06), I got a scope, gun case, and a big cleaning kit.

More recently, I've mounted a Bi-Pod on it, and it makes it sooooo much more fun to shoot, and a lot easier to shoot accurately. I just got a cheapy, like 40-50 bucks, but it makes a big difference.

A sling would be nice, I don't have one on mine yet :(

Stock change would go a LONG way to helping with accuracy if the stock you have doesn't have some form of bedding in it. Curious, what barrel did yours come with?

I started in a similar boat, a 700 SPS DM in .308 with the sporter barrel. Shot about 1.5" groups at 100 yards from the factory with Gold Medal Match rounds and some of my better hand loads. I've since dropped it into an AICS chassis system and it pulled the groups in to just shy of 1" @ 100 yards. I went a bit overboard on my 700 with the stock, but I plan on replacing this barrel as soon as money allows.

I second ammo and targets lol. As it stands you may not be able to out shoot your rifle, so give her a run and see how things go.

What model did you get? What kind of stock does it have on it? Which trigger did you get? The X-Mark or pre-X-Mark?

The best thing that you can get for it right now is a selection of ammo? Which ammo you should start with will depend on the twist rate of the barrel. As far as general upgrades go, a trigger and stock will usually go a long way. What kind of budget are you working with?
