CNBC announced Remington wants to settle the dispute over the triggers in their 700 rifle line. This was becoming death by a 1000 cuts, something gun right proponents understand. I believe their parent company wants out of the gun business. Look for a 8 million unit service action/ recall soon.

Has nothing to do with gun control or gun rights. Remington knowingly manufactured a defective product for 70 years. It has reached the point where it is economically better for them to admit the problem and offer to fix it rather than deny and settle out of court.

The vast majority will never return their rifles, but by offering the recall Remington can now rightly place blame on gun owners for future incidents who did not return them.

Soon?:rolleyes:
Remington recalled XMarkPro triggers months ago.

Does a recall indemnify a company from future injury claims.

Reduces, but does not dissolve completely. If one were to prove that someone knew a recall was occuring and they chose to ignore it Remington might have a case but NOT for those that were not aware.

Even if Remington showed up to every owners homes and told them DO NOT fire that rifle or you will die and someone did anyway a jury is still going to award the family some monetary compensation rather then side with the big billion $ company....ESPECIALLY after all the other claims and problems.

I for one will hold onto my 700 with the X mark trigger. Mine is for target shooting and shoots very good as is. I think i got lucky with it, as I am well aware of Remington's QC over the years.

overall, the company is crumbling.

I would classify these rifles as still being a danger even if you follow the four proponents. The reason is that they can fire when the safety is switched. If the rifle fires unexpectedly, it may not be fully braced up against the shoulder and can be propelled backwards, striking the shooter or someone behind him. The BULLET may not hit anyone, but the rifle itself might. We're talking possible broken noses, nasty bruises, etc.

They did not manufacture the Model 700 for 70 years with a defect. My model 700 was not on the list and it was manufactured sometime in the early 1980's....so get your info straight if you're going to regurgitate on here...elsewise you are part of the problem. Just sayin'!

Mr. T, The trigger group on the model 600 which was built in the early 60's had a defective trigger which is the same trigger that is on the Model 700.

It is my understanding that there is 2 recalls;
1. The original model 70 trigger which has been the subject of numerous lawsuits.

2. The X-mark trigger which has to much loc-tite applied to it.

Toiville2feathers- I went to the Remington website and entered my gun's serial number and they told me that my gun did not have a problem and was not on the list. Maybe I need to return to their website and check again?

While Remington has agreed to replace the older-style triggers on 7 million rifles they are denying that it is a "recall." But they are admitting that the newer X Mark Pro fix is a recall.
