Growing up my dad had a beautiful Remington 760 chambered in .243 Winchester. It was the first "real" rifle I ever fired and the one I was best with. I looked forward to inheriting that beauty...then someone broke into his house a few years ago and stole it
:cuss:.

So I've been looking ever since and just recently found a nice used 7600 synthetic in .243 for a good price. Close inspection revealed a rifle that had obviously been well maintained, but which had sat in a cabinet or closet for a few years since it's manufacture in roughly 1984 (dusty and cobwebs galore, dried up grease, etc).

So I brought it home with me and field stripped it and began cleaning. Now I'd really like to strip out the dried up stuff and re-grease the bolt but I'll be damned if I can figure out any way to release the pump and get the bolt to drop out of the rifle. Online searches have produced nada except one mention where the guy thought you had to take it to a gunsmith and unscrew the barrel!

Could that possibly be right? Anybody out there know how disassembly is actually supposed to be done?

Thanks
Ze

That is correct.

You have to remove the action tube, bolt extension, and barrel before the bolt will come out the front of the receiver.

Might be a good application for a can of Gun-Scrubber and a stiff tooth-brush!

Good GOD!

Ok I guess this one gets taken outside and hosed down with cleaner and lube and that'll have to be good enough. (Now where are my safety goggles again???)

Thanks TG,
It already came with one. Durn thing is about as helpful as a fistful of mud. Fortunately I've known how to "field strip" once since I was 13. I was just hoping to do a full takedown (you know how I am).
