Remington 7615 Police Range Report

I wonder about the bolt assembly and housing. Plastic housings are a turn off.

The trigger housing and magwell are made from aluminum, unlike 870's and 7400-7600's. There is a plastic dust guard that covers the ejection port when the action is closed.

I bought a Williams aperture sight for my 7615 that doubled the sight radius from 26cm to 54cm.

Someone just sent me this link. Interesting review. What is your opinion of the gun after these past few months?

I think this Remington looks like a fantastic hunting or defense rifle. They come in wood stocks to appeal to the sportsmen crowd and telescoping stocks to appeal to the tactical crowd.

I handled both the Mini and the 7615 at the gun store. The 7615 just felt awkward to me. It wasnt comfortable when shouldered. It was priced a bit higher than the Mini 14 in stainless. Both were priced well below even an entry leve AR from a reputable maker. It was a tough decision, but I decided to go with the Mini. Based on the above range report, accuracy is about the same between the two with only a slight nod to the Remington. It sounds like the 7615's barrell will not heat up as quick as the mini's so I would suspect if you are looking to punch holes in paper, you may want to go with the Remington.

As far as magazines go, if you are looking for a high capacity rifle you will probably want a semi auto as well. I would get an AR or AK as high capacity with the Mini is hit or miss. I have had luck with Pro-Mag 20 rounders, but who knows how much longer those will be on the shelf. I only really use 5 rounders anyway.

I am glad to see Remington diversify their product line.

I like my 7615P as much now as I did when I bought it. A while back I mounted a leupold scope on the thing to find out just how accurate my 7615 is.

The answer, about as accurate as your run of the mill bolt action.

5 shots 100m

I like my Rem. 7615. It is a natural pointer for me. Just shoulder it and i am pointing at what i want to hit. I have the rifle sights and may have to try the Williams peep.

I put a scope on it for a short while. It just feels better without it.

I am surprised that not one person mentioned this. As a reloader i don't like my brass chunked into the grass and lost. I have every reloadable piece of brass that that rifle has fired. With ammo prices going through the roof i hate losing a piece of brass that cost 16 to 20 cents each. But if needed it can be operated fast for SD. I'm certain i can fire as fast as with a shotgun and have 20 to 30 rounds on tap. If i need a semi auto rifle for home defense i have a reliable 9mm camp carbine and 4 20 round mags.

Some will recommend a lever fro HD. I believe i can pump faster than crank a lever.

I'm having difficulty finding the police version of this rifle for sale anywhere, and the civilian versions are $$$.

Hrm.

From what I understand the remmy custom shop has been swamped with LE orders in the past year. Those sweet 700p's are supposedly impossible to get a hold of as well.

"Does it take stocks and foregrips that are designed for 870's?"

It's stock is interchangeable with 20ga 870's, however the fore grip is interchangeable with the 7600's.

We had one in a rifle class this fall and I got to shoot it a couple times during a break. Iron sights with plastic furniture. I liked it but it felt kinda....fragile I guess. Very light rifle. Fed and functioned well through the (1 day) class but we only shot about 400 rounds.

I'd like to hear how these are holding up during training classes.

An 870 (other than Express) is aluminum, isn't it? My 1100 is.
I think it's made of steel, it seems too heavy for aluminum.

Are you talking about the same rifle? Mine seems overbuilt rather than fragile.

Yeah, thinking back on it fragile isn't the right word. Maybe simple is the word I'm looking for. Maybe that's a good thing. If it stands up to abuse like an 870 I'm getting one.

My first impression of this rifle was "Great, a rifle designed for people too stupid to learn how to work an AR".

When you look at the Remington Law Enforcement website (http://www.remingtonle.com/rifles/7615.htm), that's how they sell it. "Works just like the shotgun your cops are already trained on".

I dismissed it and went on about my business.

Now that I've stopped to take a second look, this rifle has some appealing qualities.

Specifically, it has the ability to do the whole SHTF thing just like an AR15 would, without flipping the gun grabbers out.

Here in Texas, having an AR15 isn't a problem YET, but for a guy that lives in California this rifle could be a serious blessing.

I'm thinking I could do any thing I might need a good combat rifle for with that little pump gun.

Now I need to shoot one...

I think this rifle has some promise in many areas, but it's a headscratcher in its original role (LE patrol rifle).

Most PDs who decide to get rifles now will get ARs. This offers nothing over the AR, has some limitations compared to the AR, and when DHS is handing out free M16s to PDs, it even loses the cost comparison. Standardization with the 870 is a nice feature to the beancounters who don't realize that you still need to do rifle training, no matter how much the gun looks and operates like a shotgun.

However, for a nice little civvie SHTF carbine, huntin' or plinkin' gun, you can do a lot worse.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

I had some range time with an AR-15, and I didn't enjoy the experience. Iv been shooting AKs, SKS, and Bolt actions all my life, so I was not at all prepared for the searing puff of noxious gas that the S&W M&P 15pc spit into my face with every shot. The fact that I could feel the free-floated barrel resonating after every shot was a little distracting a well.

True the AR-15 could lay down a higher rate of suppressive fire...But Im just one person, so who's maneuvers would I be COVERING with this suppressive fire? Im not on a Police squad, and Im not in the military. Even with my AK I can only get about 1 aimed shot per second. You could probably do just as good with this Remington pump rifle.

Long story short, I don't see how the AR-15 has any real advantages over the Remington 7615. Sure the AR can "burn" ammo faster doing a bump-fire or whatever, but you wont put out aimed fire any faster. From my experience, an 870 based pump action would probably be more reliable than ANY semi-automatic rifle that I know of. The above range report shows us that the stock AR doesn't have any real accuracy advantage over it either.

I sold my 223 bolt gun a while back to fund a handgun purchase, and I have sorely missed it ever since. Iv been saving and researching new 223 rifles for a while, and had settled on the Tikka T3 light. I had forgotten Remington even made the 7615, but now that i have been reminded, I am sorely tempted to change my mind. It would be a hell of a varmint / defense gun with a 30mm red dot mounted low.

Let me know when they make one in .308 that takes M14/M1A magazines. Do that at $595 and I'll buy one.

Old post I know but I just got one of the 308 Police/Patrol versions,16.5" barrel,Ghostring sight and standard stock about a month ago...575.00...so after playing with it for the first week and about 500 rounds I had to modify it. It now has tritium ghostring sights,Mesa Tactical stock adaptor with, for now,6 possission telestock and best of all it now takes FN FAL magazines! Took a few hours to do but it works great and I have several 30rnd South African mags.Next up is to get a rail top cover by,I think,Accuracy International and a three rail forearm. .5-.75" groups with hand loaded ammoe.

I want one in 7.62x39 that takes AK mags

Count me in for that one, too. :D

Could use a report on this one in .308

I was just thinking that a 30-06 version of the LE/Tactical model 7615 would be cool. I know there are tactical stocks available for the 7600 to get it close to the 7615 but the available hi-cap mags are not very reliable, I hear. Is that still true? Anyone know? A 7600 in 30-06 with the collapsible stock, ghost ring sights, and a hi-cap mag. Hmmmm. :)
