I'm the guy everybody goes to for the annual "sight in my deer rifle" craziness.

Buddies dad shows up with a handful of random loose ammo, I think he had 3 rounds from every box of ammo he's ever bought. So I convince him to just shoot them for some trigger time and not worry about the target.

Of course they go everywhere and he gets pissed. So I convince him to buy new ammo and keep the box so he knows what they are. At the store he wants nothing to do with trying different types so I just take a shot in the dark and get him a box of 150gr fed fusions.

We go out again and I'm telling myself "pie plate at 100yrds is all he wants" he shoots like a 4.5" group with 20mph crosswind. He's happy, I'm controlling my eye twitch, and we're about to leave when he says "take a couple shots".

I'd just finished my energy drink and had never shot his rifle but I said hey why not, it's free trigger time and I'll be happy with a 4" group at this point.

I take three quick shots and we head down.

Never shot the gun, cheap gun and scope, in the wind, with enough caffeine in me to be vibrating....

1.5" group, 1" high, dead center.

I'm eating humble pie tonight.

Got the 770 youth for the wife and kids before I noticed what a mistake they were, .243 adjustable stock for 230? Yeah buddy! Soon as we got it home, took it apart.... EWWWW!!!! The trigger is too heavy and not adjustable, everything felt cheap, the stock has fallen apart several times, close to 130 rds in, the firing pin came unscrewed! The bolt is hideous to work! Never buying one again! (Wouldn't have that time but the wife was giddy to deer hunt and I didn't have anything that fit her.) Then we started feeding it federal fusions......closest I've ever come to 5 shots 1 hole with a factory gun and ammo! My handloaded 85 Sierras average 3/4" or better, and my first load workup with 100 grainers put 3 in a .5" triangle! I threw a target scope and bipod on it and drill yotes and prairie dogs all day now. I still hate it, especially the bolt, and if we hadn't gotten youth model the bbl woulda been 2" longer, but if someone offered me another for <$140 I'd probably take it for a ride or two. There are definitely better rifles out there, even as budget guns go, but I too was incredibly surprised by that lil 770!
