Where can I find just the butt stock in black synthetic with a reduced length of pull for a 12 gauge 870? I know Remington makes a stock/forend combo for sale at certain retailers but the rep. I spoke with at Remington assured me I cannot just purchase the butt stock. I have a Surefire forend, a police style forend, and a wooden forend, so the last thing I need is another forend.

I am considering the Knoxx stock but I haven't handled one, or any pistol gripped shotgun for that matter. The Choate and Hogue offerings don't do anything for me, unless they make a stock that's very very close to the Remington factory stock that I'm not aware of.

Thank You

Check Brownells, but read the listing carefully. You might find that it costs just as much to get the complete package as it does for the butt stock alone. If so, you'll have a forearm that matches the butt stock just in case you do the unthinkable and decide to sell that shotgun.

I have the Knoxx Compstock and tried it. It's okay, but I don't think it does anything useful for someone who holds the shotgun properly. Its recoil is part of the dance and not much noticeable or unpleasant.

The Youth stock, though, is an even greater idea than sliced bread. It makes a real difference for me. I'd never heard of one and wouldn't have looked at anything called a "Youth" stock on my own. Massad Ayoob pointed me at it years ago.

If the gun is for a smaller person, you might well find that having a field length (9") forearm is a big help for them, since they won't have to extend the support hand as far to operate the gun. My 5'4" wife hates police length (7") forearms on 870s because she has to overextend her left arm to run the gun- and that makes it harder to hold the gun up.

She hates magazine extensions or anything else that puts weight forward of her left hand too.

If the shorter stock is for someone who can 'reach' a short forearm, then indeed forearm length isn't so much of an issue. But for a smaller statured shooter, the long forearm in that stock kit might be a big help.

Look on eBay at current offerings there, or consider Hogue for just a short stock- they sell their 12" LOP buttstock by itself.

Stay safe,

+1 for the Knoxx easy to install and with the six position stock my girlfriend can handle it also

Lee Lapin is on target, as always. My wife also found the police forearm awkward and hard to use.

dfariswheel's tip is good too. I have Choate stocks on a few rifles (no shotguns though) and they're good.

I wouldn't be interested in the ability to store a couple of extra shells inside the stock. To each his own.

Hello:I have a speedfeed stock I'll sell for $25.00 plus shipping if your interested. It is to short for me so I have no use for it.E-mail if you might want it.
