i have a remington exp 870 18.5" 12ga...got it used, has no forend. i googled and found way to many. hoping for suggestions from the forum..thx

Factory 870 forearms come in two basic lengths- a 9" (give or take a little bit) 'field' length, that covers part of the loading port when retracted, and a 7" 'police' forearm, which leaves the loading port uncovered when retracted.

Then there are a raft of aftermarket alternatives, as well as a couple of styles of fancy schmancy trap or skeet forearms too. So there are lots of options.

Personally I like the factory 'police' length forearm in either wood or synthetic, given a choice. It allows easy access to the loading port for admin unloading by manipulating the shell stop, and it allows the operator to use the firing hand thumb as a magazine cutoff if needed without pinching said digit. And it lets you use a six round Sidesaddle.

But my wife has problems reaching a 'police' style forearm, so the house guns here have 'field' length forearms installed to go with their shortened sticks. Oh well. They fit her and I have learned to use them.

The nice thing is there's only one size fore-end tube for Remington shotguns, unlike other makes. So your choice of forearms (in the proper gauge) is a one-size-fits-all proposition.

I really dislike the large "shroud" type Remington factory forend. I have them on 2 shotguns, but am not fond of them. On my HD gun I put the Choate forend. I really like this one. Slim corn cob design, and the short picatinny rail allows for a weapon light without spending a small fortune. They also have the same forend without the rail for about half the price.

Just what I like. Some folks like Fords, some like Chevies, it's what makes the world go 'round.

Well I dont like the factory 870 express synthetic forend at all because the knurling/checkering in the forend rips your fingers up after the first few shells.

I will agree with Lee that the factory Remigton police synthetic/walnut forends are nice, although I do prefer the look of the speedfeed synthetic forend over the Remington police sythetic forend. The are essentially the same thing but "to me" the speedfeed is a bit better foremd to the hand and all in all looks better proportioned but thats still just a matter of preference.

870p fitted with a Speedfeed 1700 synthetic forend.

But you simply cant go wrong with a factory classic police walnut stock set. I prefer wood over synthetic any day just for the "KISS" factor. The authentic police 870 "look" is just priceless, it's my favorite setup.

Danged if that ain't a pertty police 870, Dasanii19. I looked at the Remington parts catalog online, and the forend can be had for $34.00 (wood or synthetic). The walnut stock and forend set was $90.00, or there about. I think I might have to order one. BTW, what is that white stuff on the ground?

I'm 99% sure I have a short speedfeed forend around here somewhere that I took off when I put on the surefire. I know I have a standard Remington forearm. Send me an email with an address and I'll try to dig them out of the storage room and I'll drop them in the mail. They aren't new, but you can't beat the price (nothing). This assumes you just need the forend itself, the action bars are attatched to my surefire.

You could get a Picatinny rail forend. I plan on getting one for mine.

Is that for the police walnut or the Speedfeed?
Either way it's hard to argue with that price!
An R3 pad is $30 bucks around here...

Walnut.I bought a few sets and they are new take offs from police guns and I don't think you can beat that price anywhere.:D

See, it's threads like this that cause much of the trouble in this world. How can anyone look at those photos of the Police Magnum with wood furniture and not be overcome with lust? It happened to me. It could happen to you. :)

That's exactly what I've been looking for, but mine's an Ithaca 37. Would it be possible for me to purchase a 1-1/2 inch piece of picatinny rail, then attach it to my existing forend?

:)Actually I was thinking about doing the same thing with one of my hogue foreends.

Lot's of different sources for rails and I can cut, drill and mill myself!:)
