Remington 870 Wingmaster

I have an older Remington 870 WingMaster that I am considering selling/trading. Gun was manufactured in 1979 and is in excellent overall condition. It has a 28" VRB and is chambered for 2.75" shells. It is a fixed modified choke. I have made the following modifications to the gun:
Refinished stocks with boiled linseed oil...just did not like the factory apperance.
Replaced honeycomb buttpad with Remingtons new R3 recoil pad from Limbsaver.
My only source for pricing is FJestads Blue Book of Gun Values 25th Ed. (circa 2004) shows gun value at $350 (98%). So my question is how does this compare with todays market for an older 870? Should I be able to trade this straight across for a nice S&W revolver or SS Ruger M77/22? Your responses are greatly appreciated.

$300 here, maybe, if you ran across a dedicated WM fan.

The stock refinish adds nothing to the value and may subtract something. I'd have to see it to tell.

2007 Blue book at 70 percent is 250.00 as that is what a refinished gun would grade at..

I recently bought a 98-99% Wingmaster, 1978 production, with the stock 20" rifle sight barrel, and a factory 30" full choke parkerized barrel, for $300.

So I would guess you're looking at probably being able to sell yours, realistically, for around $250. Trade-in value at a dealer would be substantially less. To me, personally, it would be worth more than that to sit in the corner, to repel goblins and such.

Of course pricing is regional. Shotgun prices took a hit, and dealers are willing to offer a seller significantly less, since local legislation has curbed the shotgun's appeal to a lot of hunters.

It would help if you posted the exact version. The 2007 Standard Catalog Of Firearms places the 870 Field Wingmaster at $300-$450 for very good to excellent condition. You stated it had a fixed choke. It is my understanding that all Wingmasters after 1963 came with screw in chokes (my 870 Wingmaster Magnum does). The pre-1963 price is $225-$250 for very good to excellent and a fixed choke. Hope this is some help.

I think 1963 is too early for screw in chokes on the Wingmaster . Mine was bought brand new in 1968 and it and all the others on the rack at the time had fixed chokes. Just for nostalgic purposes, I remember my dad paid $109 hard earned American Dollars for it.

Mine is early 70's and has a fixed modified choke, I am 100% positive it has never been modified or had the barrel replaced.

$275 seems to be a typical price for a Wingmaster with fixed chokes. One advantage you have is that yours is a Modified choke. The Full fixed chokes are the most common and less desirable in my opinion.

Thanks for your input gentlemen. To make matters easier I have confirmed production date with Remingtons Customer Service based on S/N V3496XX V. It was made in 1979. There are no additonal stampings on the gun other than Wingmaster. I have attached picture for others to judge grade/value

Just another suggestion but you may want to look at gunbroker.com and see what they're going for. You'll have to sort out used from new but it's a good start.
