Remington Hammer Problem

While cleaning and reassembling (after its first range trip), I noticed that the hammer on my Uberti/Cimarron Remington isn't quite centered in the frame cutout. The left side of the hammer nose actually contacts the frame side as it enters the notch; it's wearing a little groove in the softer frame material.

The 'drag' didn't affect ignition, but it's annoying - when I lower the hammer, I feel the 'bump-scratch'. I don't think the hammer or the nose is bent; the frame clearance is bigger on the right side, all the way up the hammer.

Off the top of my head, it seems like there are at least five options:

1. Leave it as-is;

2. Have Cimarron fix it;

3. Grind a little off the left side of the hammer nose (will remove the cased finish);

4. Try to bend the hammer a little with a vise, hand sledge, and some scratch protection (this one seems a bit implausible).

5. Buy a replacement hammer;

Doesn't seem like relieving the frame would be a good idea.

To center it the use of shims/washers has been done, or send it back to Cimarron and wait months for it. That's a shame to have happen when you pay good money for a Rev at Cimarron. I haven't bought from them and now I know I won't. One other thing you can do if Cimarron says or will take too long. I would call Taylors, I do believe that Cimarron is supplied by Taylors. I may be wrong but I think I am right. It's worth a try Taylors don't ask questions. Good Luck!

What is going on is the hammer opening in the frame is a tad too wide for the hammer & ofcorse the hammer bolt is slightly smaller than the hole in the hammer & when you are lowering the hammer the Bolt Stop's leg pushing against the cam on the hammer is slightly cocking the hammer to the side as it is traveling forward.
Shims will aleviate this condition as Smoking Gun stated & also like he said it'll take forever to get your gun back from Cimarron but being it is a new piece I say it should be warantied but the choice is yours.

Cimarron uses a local gunsmith for warranty work; I wouldn't have to wait months.

In the interim I emailed said local smith, he's sending me some shims gratis.

I've got no complaints with Cimarron, they've been great to deal with.
