I want to have a custom rifle built and I need to supply a gunsmith with a left hand Remington 700 action to start the project. What is the best way to get one?

Remington doesn't sell them... nor does Midway or Brownells. In addition, Remington this year stopped making the SPS and BDL in left hand. So purchasing a new, inexpensive LH SPS is no longer an option.

If purchasing a used rifle is this answer.... what is the most I should spend. (I was thinking about going to a local gun show this weekend.)

Thanks.

BTW... I need a long action... I want to build a 30.06.

Doubleshot;

Check out this site: www.montanarifleman.com. These are Mauser type actions in the Winchester model 70 style, not pushers. They are new production, not refurbished.

I'm almost certainly going to get one to do my upcoming LHB 6.5 X55 Swedish Mauser project.

I don't know if they are still available, but when I had a custom .340 Weatherby built on a Remington action, my gun maker purchased a lefthanded Remington "barreled action" in .338 and threw away the barrel.

We lefties are a bit disadvantaged - If you are looking for a small action - good luck. If looking for a long action - find a used 30:06 or 270 ADL as they were the most produced and have rebarreled. You will be upgrading the bolt / trigger anyway with new parts and taking the barrel off should only cost $35 ish - plus you can sell the barrel or probably trade to gunsmith for taking it off.

I have both a Remington 700 left hand and a Savage 110. Both are great, but I would lean towards the Savage if I were going to build a rifle, especially if it meant buying a rifle to modify. You get a lot for the money with Savage.

24Kshooter;

It's not so bad anymore, there are things out there. For instance, CZ has just released the CZ527 in .223 in LHB.
