Remington model 11-48

I've had this gun since i was 14 when it was passed down to me by my older brother who had gotten it from the original owner my uncle. its a 20ga. recoil operated autoloader but thats about all i know, after visiting remingtons site i only have more questions, my main two are one, they list many different model type like11-48a, b and so on, yet i have no markings on my gun like that, ow do i tell what it is? and my other question which i already think i know the answer to is is there a rifled barrel available for this model, i know it is mainly a skeet gun but I don't really want to have to buy a new gun when this one works perfectly, any help would be great, thanks.

I can answer your second question: You won't find a rifled barrel for your 11-48. Rifled barrels for shotguns didn't come into fashion until the 1970's. By then the 11-48 was well out of production.

I have a 11-48 in 20 gauge also. A fine gun. Old-world craftsmanship at a reasonable price.

yeah i didn't think there would be one for it but i thought i might get lucky haha, that kind of sucks though cause i love this gun but I can't hit the broad side of a barn with a slug with it, i used to have a mossberg 20 pump i used for deer but had to give it back to the owner awhile ago so i had to use the 48 last season and it didn't work out that well, o well maybe its time to step it up to a 12

The letter designation, if it has one, will be stamped into the receiver after the model number. My 20-ga 11-48 is a B grade and is stamped "Sportsman 48 B." It has fancier wood than a standard grade and came with 2 barrels (a 23" with a Cutts and a 28" modified, both with vent ribs) that are serial numbered to the gun.



Just be sure to keep the mag tube clean or function will be affected. For lube on this particular gun, I've switched to Remington Dri-Lube with teflon. Works great!

so if mine doesn't say anything what does that mean, i ask because remingtons site just just list a 11-48, all of the models they list have a letter after, but thanks for the info

It means that it's a standard, off the shelf Remington 11-48 with no extra goodies or pretty-me-up aesthetics. Just a great shotgun without bling-bling and creamy icing. Think of the Remington 870. You have the standard 870 Wingmaster. Then you have the 870 TA/SA; TB/SB; TC/SC; etc. Tx being Trap, Sx being Skeet.

As far as the 11-48, though, the letter designations simply mean how far beyond "bone stock" the buyer was willing to go, IIRC.

Lemme check the Remington site and see what that's all about - I don't want to misinterpret what you're trying to ask (although I should've check first - DOH)

the site list 11-48a as the base model, thats why i'm confused
