remington model 1100

just brought home a nice, older remington 1100 12 gauge full choke. Does remington still offer user manuals? I tried their website, but was not able to register or download the manual. Also serial # 72xxx v , the v meaning 2 3/4 inch chamber. Anyone have an idea the year this may have been made? thanks,

Post Script

After spending much time on hold with the folks at Remington, the person told me that this shotgun was made "in 1970 or 1971". Does not seem possible since the one millionth 1100 was made in 1972! The date code on the barrel is pv which translates to 1967. I dont think the barrel is original to the gun since the serial # is 70xxx. If its not original , i would most likely modify the barrel in able to shoot steel for waterfowling. Any help on the year? Virginian? Thanks

Keep in mind that Remington's date codes on the barrel are notoriously inaccurate. They aren't manufacture dates, they're assembly dates. Because barrels and receivers come through different manufacturing process lines at the plant, it is entirely possible to have a barrel dated considerably earlier or later than the receiver serial number block would indicate. BTW, Remington does not release serial block numbers to the general public. How exactly does one go about converting a barrel to shoot steel shot that wasn't intended for such. Do you have to have the barrels chrome lined?

All Remington 870 barrels made since 1950 have the metalurgy to withstand steel shot. Since the 1100 evolved after that, I assume they have the metalurgy also. I owned an 1100 that was purchased NIB in 1972 with a fixed modified choke that I shot a ton of steel through back when steel shot was really crap. With no detectable problems. Where some problems occur is firing steel through a too tight of choke particularly the fixed fulls. This can be solved a few ways, have the choke reamed more open, have the barrel threaded for screw in chokes, or buy another barrel that already has screw in chokes. I know of no one that has had a bore chrome lined. Chroming would make the bore smaller, therfore tighter.

yea, there are no problems with steel shot on any shotguns I use that are older. found out the barrel I have marked full has been "opened" to skeet. Was checked out by gunsmith and I am happy as I will be using this in the uplands and marshes. Thanks for all the input.
