Remington Model 41 serial number

I just received a .22 Remington Model 41 Targetmaster rifle as evidence in a felony case. We can not locate a serial number. Is that typical for this model?

Quite possible. Serial numbers were not required until 1968. If it was made before that time it may or may not have had a serial number.
