any experts out there that can date a rem model 8 .35 rem with a 68762 serial number? also, anyone have experience with one of these? i got offered to buy one for 200$ in about 60 percent condition.

One man's 60% is another's 40. Shootable is one thing, safe to shoot is another. If the bore is all shot up, then perhaps $200 is a deal. Saw one in "good cond" on GI for 5K+, kid u not. But your prospect is likely Mod 81.

$200 might be a steal. I turned down $375 for mine. They go for $400-$600 on gunbroker. The Model 8 is the original and the 81 replaced it.

I would buy it. My 1908 dated Model 8 in .35 Remi sounds like yours, not a minty collectors piece, but a great shooter. Mine will do about 1.5 moa with Remington Cor-Lokt 200gr and flattens whitetails. If its all there and the bore still pretty good sounds like a fair price for great rifle.

Do you have any problems with your Mod 8?

None,it runs like a swiss watch. I did completely take the rifle apart. Had to make a special spanner to take off the barrel jacket nut, lots of kroil and some light heat(probably hadn't been off in 100 years). I gave it a thorough cleaning and re-lubed/greased(barrel and barrel spring moly-grease) everything. The bore had about a roll of pennies worth of copper in the bore, brite and shiny now,no pits.

JMB was a genius.

All my 8s and 81s run just fine.

Thank you for the link. I stand forewarned about the barrel nut and possibly other parts cemented in. I will ask the seller to field strip the rifle first.

nice Dockendorf front sight Gordon, don't see those too often!

Model 8's are fun guns for sure.

Minor differences, mostly a pistolgrip stock & larger fore-end in the 81.

Shot my 1935 8 today. Did not like the 150-grainers, around 7 inches for five at 100.
The older 200-grain load did a best of four inches for five at 100.

Despite the cramped sights & long trigger.
Great old guns.
