I have an old Remington Model 8 in 30 Remington. Bolt will not fully seat. Performed total disassembly and cleaning. Did correct reassembly but problem remained. The rotating bolt inside the bolt carrier does not rotate fully to lock up and is held back by the breach lug and will not close. Bolt rotated prior to putting the barrel back on. Any help or POCs would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim. BEDFORDTEC

The 8 and the 81s were basically a centerfire rifle version of the old humpback Browning shotguns. They are best left alone if one isn't familiar with the mechanism. I don't shoot my 81 because it is a high conditioned gun, but the best way to maintain the gun is to remove the butt stock, soak or spray clean the receiver, dry it off and re-lubricate everything. Anything beyond removing the bolt assembly from the receiver is unnecessary.
