Good morning all,
My buddy and his son and I were at the local gun shop last night, and they have a Remington Peerless 12ga. O/U for sale. It has the 26" tubes, and I would rate it at 90-92%. There is some bluing wear on the receiver, where it looks as if the previous owner carried it open breech over his arm, other than that it looks good. The bluing on the barrel is real good, action does not fall open, and the bores are in excellent shape. I would say the previous owner took care of the gun, but enjoyed it while he owned it. Reminds me of a few my grandfather had.
I have two questions, first is can we still get longer tubes for when the boy gets older. He is getting into trap shooting with us, and the gun fits him well now. He is 11 years old, and weighs 200 lbs. He is a bruiser! But when my buddy and I shoulder the gun, we would like longer tubes. And second, I understand this gun was a limited 8 year or so run. I know this does not make it a collectable, but what would a fair market price be? $650, $700? I told him this is a gun he could pass down to his son when that time comes.
Also, my buddy is considering trading an older Winchester 1300 in, as it has not been out of the gun cabinet in years. I would not trade in a Winchester, as getting another one could prove costly down the road. But he is more of a Remington guy, so to him it is no big deal. And since he has just acquired a new Spartan 310S O/U, and is shooting well with it, he sees no need for a pump.
Any and all advice is appreciated. I value the thoughts of my fellow THR'ers and will pass all information along. We did put the Peerless in layaway last night, but he has 90 days to pay it off. The boy will be paying the entire bill, so it will most likely take that long to earn all the money. Thanks for reading all this rambling, but I felt talkative this morning.
