Remington Primers

Does anyone out there use Remington primers for 9mm? Typically I use CCI or Winchester but my LGS is all sold out of those. They have plenty of Remington primers though and I'm wondering if there is any reason they'd be less desirable than the others.

Also is it better to use the 1 1/2 or 5 1/2 primers for 9mm? I've heard that the 5 1/2 aren't really "magnum" primers they just have a thicker cup.

They are one of the few brands that have given me a pierced primer, (several of them) and that was with +P.38 spcl. loads. I was using the 1 1/2 I'm pretty sure. Since the 9 can run quite a bit higher pressures, I'd go with the 5 1/2. I've not used them since, but I'm sure there are guys here that do.

I have loaded about 150 30-30 rounds with Remington primers before I discovered I was getting about 1 out of 30 duds. These were newly purchased not old primers. Good thing these rounds were just loaded for range shooting. And no it is not the rifle, they also will not fire with a second strike. Pretty disappointing.

During the 1st obamanation scare I used what ever I could find.
That included Rem 2 1/2 & 6 1/2.

They worked just like any other primer.

I don't use max loads, so I didn't have to rework it either.

I second the dud primers on Remington. About 1 in 15 for me, they do fire on second tap but it's really annoying. I have never had a FTF on any ammo before with this revolver and have no problems with factory ammo or if I load with the Winchesters.

I use just about the whole range of Rem primers without a hiccup.

I have used many thousands of Remington primers with not one problem. They do take a tiny bit more pressure to seat than do Federal or Winchester so that may be the reason they were not seated deep enough but i dont know that. Just guessing but i like Remington primers!

I think I have used just about everything out there and had good luck with all of them. Remington work well. I can't even say I have a favorite. I like Winchester because they are for magnum and regular rounds but only for that reason and won't worry about it if I can't find them.

I have used Rem primers for years and never had any trouble. I have gone through 10.000 of Rem 7/12 and no trouble and close to that in hand guns rounds small and large.

I use Remington 5 1/2 primers for 9mm for my full power 124gr loads using AA#7, VV 340, and Blue Dot.

I would buy a few just to keep on hand for the times you can't find any primers at all ANYWHERE!!!

I sure wish I had, i'm down to my last few hundred and the chance of finding more anytime soon is pretty dim.

Way back when I first started reloading bottle neck cartridges I pierced primers with the Remigton's. When I switched to CCI I never experienced another one, so I'm convinced they are of a different breed. Not that I think they are a bad primer or anything, just that they have a lower pressure threshold, which needs to be considered when working up your loads.

Funny thing though, we just put about 100 rounds of factory Reminton .270 win through a new Ruger American yesterday and most of the primers leaked? I was surprised to say the least, as none of my reloads using 57.3 grs. of RL22 leaked at all using CCI-250's. My first thought was Remington primers were the cause.

Thanks for the posts. It sounds like they're worth a shot (pun intended) especially since everything else is sold out. These will just be for range/target use so if I have an occasional dud I think I can live with that.
