I believe it's Cerberus (sp?) that owns them. Actually, I thought that Remington bought bushmaster which was bought out in turn by Cerberus... Anyway, the companies that make ARs they're all (well, a whole bunch anyway) under the same umbrella now.

Correct. One big conglomeration. The R-15 is a Bushy AR, but one that is aimed at sporstmen who carried that "who needs a darned assault rifle" attitude toward your typical EBR platform.

The R-15 does have some differences. Comes with medium contour 18" and 22" barrels and Remington designed trigger. Byron South helped spec it.

Pretty expensive for a bare-bones AR-type rifle. You could build same with a sweet trigger for less. But the camo does separate it from its EBR cousins.

I have heard the same comment about the Remington having a better trigger; but someone remarked that it was partly due to lighter springs in the fire control group.

Can anyone confirm if that is the case? Is Remington using a different trigger or just a stock trigger with lighter springs?

I am really glad that Remington decided to sell an AR15 under their name. Take that Jim Zumbo!!!!

Same here. I'd definately consider one in 6.8 if I was in the market for a nice little deer carbine.

I have the 18" r-15 in .223. The springs are definitely smaller diameter (lighter) than my stock DPMS or BM triggers. I ordered a Timney for this gun but I think I'll be installing it in a different lower.

I did a complete review but it started going down hill on this forum with over priced comments and the usual "it's just a bushmaster" which sparks a whole who made who debate so I deleted it. Guys, this is AR-15 technology, kinda like 1911's, everyone copies everyone. I'd like to see a parts list of AR components to build one that is this light with the same options. $929 is a pretty good price for it and I can't build or have one built for less.

If anyone would like to see my quick and dirty review with positive comments from like shooters you may view it here:

Buck44, getting more to the intent of your thread. I hope the info at the above link is helpful and something you were looking for when posting. Good luck. If you search around on the link I provided there are about 3 other review of the r-15 within the last week.

Does it look like a stock trigger group in all other respects? Just lighter springs? Or is it using different trigger geometry and hammers as well?

Let me check tonight when I get home. I don't like giving false info and I can't remember off the top of my head. If I forget by tomorrow....PM me on it.

excuse me for living in my own little world, but who (or what)? is Jim Zumbo?

back to the task at hand, remington also sells mauser actions, the same identical rifles charles daily used to sell, but now with the remington trade mark. i rember when they bought out baikal, and started selling shotguns from them too...

r-15 with a heavy 20'' bbl might be nice for coyote hunting without scaring the public with the "evil black rifle syndrome"
is the r-15 conventional direct gas operated or does it use a gas piston?

Zumbo is (was) an outdoor writer who once made a very stupid comment about "terrorist rifles" like ARs and AKs, and how we shouldn't use them in hunting.

This was a big-name guy, too. Wrote for several hunting mags, had a TV show, endorsements for all sorts of companies...

Long story short, he posted that tripe, and was fired or dropped in record time from pretty much everything.

This is probably a topic for another thread, but the short answer is that he was an outdoor writer (Outdoor Life) and was sponsored by Remington to mention one of many. He had a web blog and he badmouthed the AR-15 style rifles.....Needless to say, about 98.6% of the shooting community came down with both feet on him and his sponsors. (probably the most traffic generated on a single topic in the shortest period of time in web history [just a guess on my part]) Needless to say, his sponsors dropped him like a hot rock, he apoligized and tried to waffel out of the mess but was more or less forced into retirement and that is just the short answer!

oh, thanks.

i find that extremely confusing and ironic, a man who has hunted and shot his whole life, denouncing rifles because they aint based on centuries old bolt and lever actions...

the world is full of mysteries i guess...

back on topic, whats a r-15 cost nowadays?
one of these might make a nice high school graduation gift for me:D
along with the transmission i fryed in my truck doing burnouts after i got my diploma, stories for a diffrent forum though...

I checked them out at Bass Pro Shops of all places and they seem to be ok. They had an comparable Bushmaster there and the only difference I could tell was the cooling slits cut into the forearm and the Bushy was slightly heavier.

I am really surprised that Dicks carries them, because I have never seen any rifles like this at the Frisco, TX store. I guess BPS carries AR's now since their in a camo pattern.
