Friends daughter owns a Russian mfg Remington semi auto 12 ga. She lives in upstate Ny and needs a choke tube for slug hunting. I have no experience with these shotguns. Anyone have any info or resource for tubes for this gun? thanks Don

That shotgun is the same as a Baikal MP-153. It uses the Tru choke thread pattern. They are available from most of the big choke makers.

The Baikal semiauto was part of Remington's Spartan line (SPR 453) They also imported Russian double barrels.

I have a Remington Spartan (Baikal) exposed-hammer coach gun. It would be better if it had real hammers instead of "cocking levers." I would rate it as one step above the Chinese guns and two steps below the Turkish guns.

Which model do you have?

I have the SPR220F with exposed hammers, and they are true hammers and not just cocking levers. I did one modification that I consider essential, I removed the auto safety function. Kind of foolish on a gun that needs to have the hammers cocked.

I sent you a copy of the manual for the Remington 453 semi auto. Maybe it will be useful. Here are some pictures of the gas system. Some folks put it together in the wrong order. IMG_0067.JPG IMG_0068.JPG

The Baikal Bounty Hunter II had fake external hammers. They didn't strike real firing pins. They just cocked the internal strikers. I don't know if the Spartan is a copy of the Bounty Hunter II.

I have the model with the real exposed hammers. While not a high end coach gun, it's grades above the Chinese. Never could figure out that cocking "lever" hammer deal. If you already have a cocking hammer gun, why bother?

Those crazy Russkies!

Is that hard to do? I believe it's a matter of removing a linkage, right? And yet you still have the manual safety, correct?

It's been years since I did it, but it was an easy fix. Look here: http://marauder.homestead.com/files/TuneBaik.html

Yes, you still have the manual safety, the only thing that has changed is that the safety doesn't engage automatically upon opening.
