I was out gun hunting one day last year and found this one sitting in the cornner, behind the counter, at a pawn shop. I asked why was it not on the rack and was told that it was broken, the tip of the magazine plunger is broken off. I asked what they wanted for it, just to get rid of it. The guy said he had $90 tied up in it and he would let me have it for that. ou know what my answer was. :D
It's in pertty good shape with just a little surface rust on the barrel.

The scope is a Bausch & Lomb, Balver 8A (2.5 to 8X) with a fine duplex crosshair. The mount is also made for a 22 by Bausch & Lomb.
There are no adjustments on this scope. The adjustments are on the mount.
The scop and mount are worth more then I paid for the rifle.

Oh! The new magazine tube plunger cost me $6.

The Remington speedmaster was my wifes first gun...she got it when she was 10....to that would make it in the early 70'

It has had thousands of rounds run in it and it is still a great shooter. Nice score.

Good catch and you are right on the scope - worth way more than the all up price for the rifle when you walked out of the store :)

Like I said in another post, I have a weakness for 22s. I have a hard time passing one up when the price is right. Sometimes I will see one and say to myself, " I don't have one of those" And that is all it takes to get me to buy it.
I had picked up a nice 552 Speedmaster about 4 years ago. My brother had one just like when we were kids. About two years ago his oldest son turned 17. I gave the rifle to him for his birthday.

Good Find! I know my SIL is not happy with my Speed Master because it shoots groups almost as small as his fancy dan Bull barreled 10/22. If I'm not out with the Win 61 then it's the Speed Master. my weakness is finding a Win 52 in good shape when at the same time I have $.

That's a great deal for a really nice model. The Balvar scopes were optically excellent back in the day, but the mounts were a bit complicated, compared to the internal adjustment.
