Remington Sportsman 12 Pump question

I have a Remington Sportsman 12 Pump. I have a few questions and can't find any detailed information on it.

Is the Sportsman 12 actually made by Remington, or is it a clone?
Is it an older gun, or are there still 870's still made under the Sportsman name?

It was made by Remington, it was their venture into the lower priced 870 before the Express. It was only made for a couple of years in the mid 80's. If you look at the barrel, you can tell when it was made using this page:

Yep. Just a plain jane 870, a step lower in finish than the Wingmaster, a step better than the Express. I've seen a couple on the used racks from time to time, but they were priced too high for cheepskate me to consider. They looked like good guns.

They made a Sportsman version of the 1100 at the same time...

Thankyou for the information. Mine is definately used, but but for $160 I figured it was a good deal. I have thought of selling or trading it a few times. Then I go out and shoot it, and those thoughts disappear . It destroys clay pidgeons quite nicely.
