I have been considering a Remington 700 SPS for a coyote carry gun (lightweight and rugged) What kind of accuracy can I expect? (I reload) I have seen plenty of reviews and reports for the 700 varmint, tactical, etc. but I have not seen anything on the "plain jane" 700 sps. I am sure you guys can inform me. Thanks

While I don't own a standard sporter SPS I have a friend who does and have seen several others at the range. ALL of them have been very very accurate, especially considering they're sporters. :)

I bought a 700 SPS in .30-06 for deer hunting this last year. To try and figure out how it was going to shoot I bought maybe 8-9 different boxes of ammo to try. At the range I shot 1" groups at 100 yards with 180 gr Core-Lokts. I thought those were overkill for deer so I moved on. When I switched to other brands and grains the groups opened up a bit. I shot 1.5-2" with 165 gr rounds and was averaging about 2" with Federal Power-Shoks and Core-Lokts. I was only shooting off bags so I'm sure I was a large part of my accuracy results. I'm also sure my barrel was about a million degrees, which certainly can't help. I've already taken one deer this year so I know it's "deer accurate" :)

I've got a 308 and that started as a youth model before I put a standard houge stock on it. I've never shot anything in it but cheap federal power-shok 180's and don't have any problems getting 1-1/2" groups if I let it cool a little between shots.
