Remington Subsonic .22 LR Hp opens up well

SHot an old phonebook and it penetrated well , only stopped by a good wood barrier. I recovered the bullets and they expanded pretty well . Advertised by Remington with velocity of 1100 ft per sec. Nice thing with subsonic is it doesnt have the loud crack . But still quite powerful to do its job killing small game.

I used my Marlin 880 SQ with a bushnell scope . The phone book was 15 yds away. i hope next time i can put down some squirrels as spring comes along.

I couldn't get those to group worth a darn out of the 10/22 and P22. Have you shot them for accuracy? I found CCI subsonics to shoot the best for my guns, they are pricey though (for a .22lr).

I've killed many raccoons and opossums, and a few armadillos with the subsonics. Recovered a few of the bullets, both were nicely flattened, but I don't know if it happened in the animal or upon hitting the backstop behind the animals. Either way they worked pretty well for the intended purpose.

We used to use phone books in our basement range. Never noticed anything bouncing around in the phone book. Most of the projectiles followed a pretty straight line through the book until stopping part way through.

I have heard that they bounce around in skulls, because they can penetrate one wall of the skull but don't have enough energy to make it out the other side, so they bound instead of penetrating, but I don't think this would happen in a phone book.

Bounce around as in ricochet inside the skull. IT will create more trauma as it penetrates the other brain tissue. Oh yeah, turn s it into jello thats for sure ! SOme of them can lodge into hard to reach places and have to be left alone undisturbed.

But Ill try some of those CCI subsonics soon such as this one.

I've found that the CCI subsonics are not all subsonic....a couple fps over, about 1/2 the time. I haven't tried their segmented varmint offering though.

The Remington subsonics I've found to have anywhere from 3 to 7 duds per 100, but are otherwise the most reliable for cycling the action of a 10/22.

The thing is: a .22 LR will ricochet! If you have a possum under your car, don't try to shoot it and end up putting a hole in your gas tank. I shot a hole in my water barrel when a 22 ricocheted. No big deal there, but you could hit something you didn't mean to hit.

The Remington CeeBees perform quite nicely for me, it has a pre-segmented truncated cone hollow point moving around 750fps. They are really quiet and expand well also.

i use the remington subsonics in my ruger mkII and they are very reiiable and shoot ~3" at 25 yards rested plenty to kill squirrels with. i just hit them in the middle then take the hind end home to eat; not much meat up front.

out of the savage mkII they shoot about 2x as wide as its prefered ammo types...

All bullets will ricochet. You probably should not be trying to shoot animals underneath your car with any of them.

Thanks for the pics!
I haven't shot any of the Remington subsonics yet but am very familiar with the CCI version. CCI's are VERY accurate past 50 yds in my Contender Carbine with the match chamber.
I have regularly hit golf balls at 50 yds with them and they seem to be subsonic as they don't have the loud "crack".
They also are VERY effective on possums and raccoons!

I used to use CB caps to pop varmints. Back in the day I used to drill a 1/16 " hole and cross cut the nose with a hack saw. Made a perfect "popcorn" mushroom in squirrels. Totally quiet, and 100% lethal on varmints.

Augliar SSB 60 grain are great also.

Lousy accuracy.
They keyhole badly at longer range in every rifle I have tested them in due to too slow rifling twist.
