I recently bought some remington wonder wads on clearance at gander mountain just to try in my 54 renegade. Has anyone had any experience with these and do they really do anything positive for your shooting?

Wads can help keep your bore a tad cleaner - depending on the type of bullet you are using. Round ball really just needs a patch, no wad needed. Flat base conical bullets can benefit from a wad for both cleaning and for better utilization of the expanding gases of powder burn. A concave base bullet doesn't get any benefit from a wad as the wad just gets pushed up into the cavity and never contacts the bore walls as the gases expand.

Some folks do indeed attain better accuracy using a wad with patched round balls, especially when using heavier powder charges I believe.
And it may help to try using one with nearly any conical bullet, especially if the performance and accuracy of that bullet isn't very good in the first place without using it.
The only way to tell is to experiment with and without using the wad.
Some rifles and projectiles will benefit more from the use of wads than others.

Any projectile can potentially benefit from using wool wads. Some folks do report improved accuracy when using them with patched round balls too, especially along with heavier powder charges.
The only way to really determine how much they will help is too experiment.
Every rifle and projectile is different, but generally using wads won't hurt. They may increase velocity just a little bit, but using them is supposed to help increase overall consistency.
Most people don't use them very often because they increase the cost per shot and aren't always necessary or produce a noticiable benefit. So folks mainly use them when accuracy and performance is lacking and some improvement would be beneficial enough to make them worth trying out.

The Durofelt website Gatofeo mentions is a great source - good people, good product. They HAVE gone up since the last time I ordered from them, but what hasn't gone up in the last 4 years? Watch their closeouts and you can still get some great deals.

You can also check around in Hardware stores - some places still sell some 100% wool felt for weatherstriping. It will probably be a tad softer than the high density stuff from Durofelt, but using two wads instead of one would take care of that. I sometimes use 2 wads or some extra thick wads (from Durofelt) in my 1858 Rem just so I can get the ball loaded closer to the end of the cylinder

I use them all time in my Rem M700ML in .54 caliber for conicals. They will shoot a lot better (in my gun) with them. I also feel that they help with repeat shots and cleaning.
