Anyone have any experience with this rifle? How do you like it?

It seems very affordable and a good brand, looking for a magazine fed 22LR...Thanks

Kinda cheaply made, as far as materials/finish is concerned, but nonetheless a good rifle, by most all accounts. They seem to have fixed the magazine-causing-jamming problem. A fairly good amount of aftermarket accessories available, if that's your thang, but not as much as the 10/22.

My 597SS runs great. Just follow the directions on rimfirecentral.com and make sure the guide rods for the bolt aren't overtight from the factory, as that will cause problems.

Mine is surprisingly accurate, though not anywhere close to my CZ452 (duh).

What I like about the 597 is it fits adults better than the 10/22 which always felt like a toy to me. Either one is a good rifle for fun. :)

Didn't care for the one I had.

Sold it within a month. Horrible jammer.

Tried many different ammo types, had the new metal magazine "fix", just did not function well at all.

I suggest you run a site search on the Rem597.

Much has already been said about it.

I have both a 10/22 and a 597. I both are stock with exception of the triggers. I find the 597 to be far more accurate with run of the mill ammo and I haven't had any feeding issues past the first 500 rounds. If I didn't already have the mags for the 10/22, I'd probably drop it and just be happy with the 597.

I also know 2 guys with the .17 HMR 597's and they are quite pleased. Neither have had any of the out-of-battery issues that others on the Internet report.

Bought one in august for my son on his 13th B-day and we have put about a 1000 rds through it (federal) and not one single problem with it (no FTF,FTE,
FTRB, etc) accurate and a blast to shoot, my son loves it. MHO good gun.

I've got one 597, and four 10/22's. I'd rate 'em about equal with the same ammo, but I give the edge to the 10/22 but only on looks (My 10/22's are all older DSP's). The 597 shoots just fine. Mine jammed one time in the first magazine, then never since. I really like the location of the magazine release. Just about perfect IMHO. It does feel, as mentioned above, like a "big rifle."

I've seen them for as little as $150.00 at Wally World recently. Good gun for that kind of money.

597 magazine is horrible

I'll I've had one...as with a fellow shooter...nice little shooter...but the magazine feed jame problems just wouldn't go away...we both got steel mags before selling off the guns...(buyers bought at their risk) we'd never recommend to anyone.

I'll stick with the Stevens 87 on subs.

Cheaply made..not a very sturdy rifle...horrible, heavy trigger...will shoot good groups with the ammo it likes...is dirt sensitive, kinda...stock fits and trigger reach fits the average adult very well...magazines are easy to crack, even though they are manganese...once broken in, if it doesn't break first, will shoot very well and surprisingly accurate!

I like them a lot; don't know if it is still true, but they used to come with a fully adjustable rear site, along with front site, very cool, very few rimfires do nowadays- centerfires too for that matter.
they make a 25 or 30- round hi cap mag for it as well, very nice.
just get the metal mags, take apart the receiver, pull out the guide rods, and put them back in just finger tight, and just enough to be able to close up the back end. The major prob with jamming starts at the factory; they put the guide rods in too tight, and the bolt assy., binds up, because of the tight rods.
While you have the rods out, you could get some 0000 steel wool, and some of the new remmy oil, with VCI product in it, and really polish the heck out of those rods, so they are supersmooth.
next thing to do is improve the horrible trigger, then get a box of copper washed, hi speed 22 ammo, and run a brick of ammo through it, as fast as you can stand it. This will smooth up, and polish up, all the moving parts inside the receiver. you will now be very good to go.
If I got a newer one, and it did not have the sights on it; i would deff chop the bbl down to 16 inches, and thread it as well- but that's just me.

YA what Ranger said. DIM. once again. i went out yesterday & shot 200 Cheap dirty old Rem thunder bolts & 1 box of CCi Stingers. One FTF out of the rem ammo. & at 50 yards as long as its not piping hot. it will do nickels & quarters all day long. PS ranger you got a good trig job for it. its the only thing i dont like.

check the thread over on www.rimfirecentral.com under the remington thread, should be a subthread called 597. this will have everything you need.

Also please tell us you don't actually prefer remmy 22 ammo, and that you were just shooting it, to get rid of some of the last of your horrific remington 22 ammo...

i no i no ever one says its the worst ammo=Rem thunder bolt. But im sorry guys till i start to see inconsistency between shots & jams. im going to keep shooting it. The bullets are tight to the brass. & as far as im concerned thats a big plus in 22 auto loaders. Bulk value packs with loose bullets are what jam up all my auto 22s=Marlin 60/ 10/22 & rem 597 & im
done with cheap bulk CRAP. Rem Thunder bolts are cheap at $1.99 a box. i just cant call them crap yet. DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY thats it. Thanks for the link Ranger
