My mag release screw in my Delta Elite is held with some blue Loc-Tite and attempts to free the screw have resulted in bent screwdriver tips. I wand to do something to loosen the Loc-Tite because if I go any further than I have I'll likely damage the screw. And that's a bad thing.

Suggestions?

Blue Locktite is supposed to release with hand tools.

Have you tried impact, either with an impact driver or giving the screwdriver a good whack with a mallet (rawhide or plactic)?

If that doesn't get it moving, you may have to put a low heat on it.I'd try a good ciggie lighter before I moved up to anything hotter.

I hope this helps,Robert.

Stans has the answer, put a chisel tip on your soldering iron and slip it in the screw cut like you were going to use it to unscrew the screw. Give it a 20 count or so and then immediately try to remove the screw. If that doesn't work give it a little more heat time until you get it. Be sure to clean and dry that area well before starting, a little gunscrubber or alcohol works well.

I knew you torched out the red stuff but I really didn't want to do that to my gun. Didn't even think that lower heat might do the trick on the weaker stuff. Thanks for the advice. Just have to go dig up one of my irons and get too it.

If I'm not mistaken

the magazine release on the Delta Elite is the same as on a 1911. That little slotted thing on the right side of the magazine catch is not a screw it is a cammed latch that only turns 90 degrees to latch or unlatch . Is it possible that you are not depressing the mag catch from left to right before trying to turn the latch?

If you are trying to remove the magazine catch assembly here's how you do it.:
Push the mag catch assembly in, as if you were releasing a magazine. While holding the mag catch assembly in that position, turn the small screw on the right side of the mag catch assembly about 90 degrees counterclockwise. You will immediately feel that the spring tension has been removed. Now push the assembly to the right side of the gun and remove it.

Yes, the blue Loc-Tite in the mag release area threw me off but I figured out the "camming" action of the "screw" after fiddling with it some more. Not sure where the Loc-Tite came from but if they put it there I don't see how it could have done any good. It might have been drips or chunks from the trigger over-travel screw. That's my current guess.

Now I know and I even figured it out myself . . . but not before ruining a couple of driver bits and some of the finish on the . . . retainer? The cam screw thing :) A small price to pay for the education I think.
