Okay, I fell like such a geek having to ask this question but I'm stumped and need advice.

I retired last Friday and received all sorts of great gifts from my employees. Among them was a set of beautiful grips by Esmeralda for my Springfield Loaded stainless 1911. I brought them home and went out to the garage and got the Allen wrenches out of the tool box. None of them fit! Upon close inspection, it appears that the grip screw heads have a star-shaped pattern rather than a six-sided Allen wrench pattern. What tool do I need to remove the screws?

Thanks!

Springfield now uses Torx screws in their grips. You can get a set of these bits/wrenches at most hardware stores.

Hope this helps.

If it is a 5 pointed star you need a torx driver. I don't know the size for SA but there are many reasonably priced multi bit gunsmith driver sets available at Cabelas and Midway.

I envy you, I am eventually going to get a set of her grips for my 1911.

Enjoy, shoot safe, shoot often.

If you have any of those multi-bit changable head screwdriver sets around check them and you may have some torx bits in there. I've found them in a couple of my tool kits. Any store that sells tools should have them if you don't.

Okay, project completed and a photo of the beautiful results. Thanks to everyone for the advice!

I looked long and hard at those (LOL) beautiful grips, I have a set of her California Buckeye grips on my S&W 1911sc that are gorgeous; can't say enough good things about Esmeralda's grips. Enjoy, TF
