Removing Knoxx fold-down stock from Rem870?

I own a Remington 870 and added a Knoxx recoil absorbing pistol grip to it which also has a fold-down wire stock. Unfortunately, the stock interferes with proper ejection of the spent round when the stock is folded up against the body of the shotgun. As I never use the fold-down stock (I just leave it folded up) I would like to know if it's legal to remove it. It appears to have a pressure pin that holds the stock on which I could just tap out with a hammer.

I know the ATF has some confusing laws about how you may or may not modify a weapon, and I have been unable to find a clear answer, so any advice would be helpful.

Without it, how long is the shotgun? How long is the barrel?

Edit: I measured it and it is 29.5" long with the stock folded up, which would be the same length if the stock were removed. It's the Express 7-shot model. The barrel is a touch over 18" from the tip to the receiver (right?)

I know that in Washington State where I am the rule with the shotgun is over 18.5 inches for a shotgun barrel but the over all for any rifle has to be over 24 inches total with a barrel no shorter than 18 inches. So what I would do is just look around when you are browsing your local gun store and see in they sell pistol grips for shotguns. If they sell them they are legal.

Yeah, they do sell pistol grips, but I am wondering if the length is the only issue. Removing the folding stock doesn't seem like a big deal to me, but I really don't know.
