hi guys,
I am looking at buying a used Ruger Blackwawk with a satin stainless streel finish. The problem is that the gun is in really nice shape, but has a few small scratches on the end of the barrel. I haven't seen the gun up close (it's online), so I can't tell how deep the scratches are. My question is : is there any way to either blend the scratches in better or remove them? The marks might not even be scratches, but some kind of marring. Can they be buffed out, and still maintain the satin finish and not end up with area being shiny? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

I recently had occasion to return a stainless HB upper AR to it's mfg for some warranty work. The piece was returned with several notable badly scuffed and scratched areas just forward of the front sight block. Kinda aggravated me as that barrel was brand new, but rather than be without the rifle for another month I decided to tackle the job myself. Took a sheet of USED (translate that into heavily worn!) 400 grit wet/dry, soaked it with kroil and LIGHTLY applied it to that bbl using the same apparent finish turning that it came with......I got lucky I guess because the barrel looks as good now as it did before I sent it back to the mfgr. The job mimics the satin finish precisely, I was somewhat concerned that I'd wind up with a shiny area but apparently the combo of oil and the w/d was the right way to go!

Bottom line tho, is only you can make the call if such an approach will work in your case.

I sure do know one thing, I will NEVER send another gun back to Rock River for them to work on!

try some flitz metal polish. goes on and off like a buffing compound.. works great if the scratches are not too deep..
