Hello everyone and greetings to you! Guys I got a new Smith & Wesson Model 66 double-action .357 magnum revolver but it's got scratches. :(

Can I buff these out? They look a lot worse off camera, and "shift" in the light so are pretty noticeable. They don't look deep though, more like scuffs. I do not want to refinish the whole revolver, only remove these scratches and make it blend in with the rest of the gun if possible.

What should I do? (please don't say leave it be, it's bothering me and I want to clean it up).

Thanks! :)

I would hand polish the whole gun with Mothers Wheel polish and a soft cloth. If it turns out too shiny for your liking, you can knock the shine off with a scotchbrite pad or fine sanding block. If you stroke it in one direction, it will look like the factory matte.

I carry my SP101 alot and bang it up. Every year or so, I give it a freshen up as described above.

Yep wheel polish. But be careful with that stuff. I started out with just a rough rag and Mother's Mag, then went to a silk like towel and Mother's Mag. By the time I finished I could literally see myself in my 686. I turned it into a mirror. Oops.

Doesn't look like it will ever clean up! It's really really bad -
Please send to my ffl and I will get you a shiney one in return " )

Mold polishing stones.

MSC or just about any tool supply house will have what you need.

Start with a soft/coarse stone that will break down and take off some meat. (be careful)

Then, go to a harder/finer stone that will bring everything back flat and remove gouges.

Same will work with blue.

This is how you do it. Take it from a toolmaker and gun nut.

Big7, I just checked out MSC's web site. I never knew about those stones. All this time I've been using wet-or-dry over a flat file.

I do learn something new every time I get on THR.
