Fresh out of the box my 270win shoots way high and way right open sights. Made this purchase to replace my 700ADL in the same caliber, I gave to my son ages ago. My ADL was a tack driver, if I could see it got a bead on it,I'd nail it. Since they don't offer the ADL with iron sights I went BDL. My problem is the rear sight. I can adjust left and right. Up and down it doesn't budge. Should I give it a good wack or complain to Remington and they'll probably say "send the gun in." I got my XDs back after 3 mos. Don't want to hassle with that.

Used my micrometer to measure front sight it's about 100th off on one side from the hood. But if I can adjust the rear I feel like this won't be a problem.

Not what you want to hear, but my advice is to take them off and throw them in the trash. The filler screws for the scope bases will fill in the holes. Virtually all factory irons are primarily for decoration and are next to useless anyway, especially on newer rifles. If you MUST have iron sights buy some good aftermarket sights. And yes, you can lightly tap the irons on your rifle with a plastic hammer or brass punch to move them.

There is a reason most companies don't offer irons anymore. Good ones cost as much or more than a quality scope. As a result they stick cheap ones on them for the guys who want them.

A good scope and mounts will cost about the same as good replacements, be more reliable and work better at all ranges from 5 yards to 500 as long as you don't get carried away with too much magnification.

With my luck, I'd whack it and break it.

If you need to lower the POI, can you file down the front sight?
(Not sure if that's right...)

To lower the POI, you need to raise the front sight. You can get various height inserts for the Remington front ramp. Invest in a sight pushing tool so that you can change the insert without messing up the ramp. You can also adjust the side-to-side POI by positioning the insert laterally in the ramp.

If you insist on iron sights on this rifle, you should go with a receiver peep sight (like a Lyman #48) rather the barrel-mounted notch rear sight. Receiver sights can be mounted using the holes that are already drilled and tapped for a scope mount. Remove the barrel rear sight and fill the holes with the filler screws from the receiver.

this is 2014. take them off and toss them and put a good scope on it. Little practice and there every bit as fast as open sights.

As you probably know, Remington's quality control (or lack thereof) is notorious lately. I've personally seen a rifle with the barrels screwed in crooked, ones with the barrels so loose they could be removed by hand. One where the receiver looked like it had been carved out with a chisel.

I've got two, but they are older vintage. I wouldn't assume anything is correct. Even though it's not hitting close to the aim point, I'd shoot enough to make sure it groups before putting a lot of money/effort into it.

Williams makes a good rear and front sight replacements last I knew.
