Repair a stock cracked right through the recoil bolt?

I have a Finnish M39 that I got a good deal on because it the stock has a long crack on one side, right through the recoil bolt. I figured I'd just get a new stock, but it turns out such things are tough to find and expensive when you do.

Has anyone successfully repaired a stock with a crack like that? Any suggestions on the best way to go about it, or should I forget it and keep looking for a replacement?

I would probably grind the crack out with a cut-off wheel and fill it with Brownell's Acraglas. You can add die to the Acraglas when you mix it to try and match the stock color.

The repair will be stronger then the rest of the stock.
