I have a nice set of old MOP S&W grips, but one grip has developed a couple of cracks (fissures) at the natural grain lines from the edge of the grip going into the natural fault lines in the grip. (crack/fissure - following fault line)

No chips or material missing on the grip. Is there an acceptable way to stabilize and or fill these cracks ?

I think that some clear epoxy, mixed with fine MOP dust will do the trick. But the filler WILL show, no matter what technique you use.

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure the fine cracks would allow a two part epoxy to weep into them. I understand what you are saying and if they were opening up I could see that as a good fix. I will continue research for a bit yet before I try anything.

Yes they are hairline . Thanks for taking the time to get back to me - sounds plausible .

Do you plan on shooting the firearm? I have used Hot Stuff which makes some of the thinnest CA type glue on the market to make nearly invisible fixes. It will wick into cracks with little effort. However, CA doesn't do as well on parts subject to recoil and can "sugar" in such conditions. Be sure to thoroughly degrease before attempting the repair.

Thanks for the information - I do not plan on shooting the gun with the MOP grips on it. I'll keep them for display.

Good luck with your fix. Hot Stuff is incredibly liquid with little surface tension which is why it spreads and wicks. I use wax paper as a cheap work surface to prevent stuff being glued with CA from sticking to the surface.
