So, one of my M1911s has a completely traditional thumb safety, but that safety, I have found, is not of the greatest quality and I would prefer an ambi safety anyways.

-Q1: Where can I get an ambidextrous M1911 safety.
-Q2: How do I install it (point me towards a guide or something)

Thanks All.

A number of places can provide the ambi safety you need. Brownells and Midway come to mind, but others exist, including Ebay .

They have to be fitted however, and that requires proper knowledge of how the safety functions with mating parts in the gun. There are 1911 how to books or maybe the proceedure is on the net someplace. For some safeties a modification of the right side grip is required, a pin replacement for some others.

it's not that difficult to do/ brownells stuff comes with instructions. you can always have a gunsmith install it for you.

Check with Brownells, Midway USA, Natchez, ect., and get one from one of the major mfg., ie; cylinder & Slide, Ed Brown, Les Baer, Wilson, ect.

As stated, they come with directions, and its not hard to install, I did it.

I like the Ed Brown ambi safeties because they feel the same on both sides.

I installed one myself. Never again. Complete pain in the neck. It's well worth it to have a gunsmith fit the safety and refinish my 1911 while it's there.
