I wrote a letter to Senator John Warner's office a few weeks ago - to urge him to not support any further gun legislation, especially re-authorization fo the Clinton Gun Ban.
He replied in a letter basically saying that he takes each case, and judges its merit, and doesn't align himself neither with nor against NRA or any other organization.
In one paragraph of the letter I received back, this was written:
"...I voted against the Clinton-Feinstein semiautomatic weapons ban. This ban on 19 weapons that were mischaracterized as "assault" weapons outlawed specific makes and categories of firearms based primarily on their cosmetic appearance. Automatic weapons and real assault weapons have been banned for many years, and no one has proposed that the ban on these weapons be repealed. "
Is this so? I thought that anyone (at least in Virginia) who wanted to pay the Class III tax of $200 could purchase a fully-automatic weapon.
Is he wrong on this, or am I missing something?
Also, I would like help replying to him if he IS wrong on this issue.
