For those discussing where on the list "self protection" occurs, I'd say the last spot is as good as the first (and both are considerably better than in the middle), at least in an unordered list like this. In learning psychology, primacy (first) and recency (most recent, or last) are both important effects in memory and learning; as such, the first and last items of a list are the most memorable. In some cases, the last may be the single most important, due to rhetorical devices.

In other words, do you really think the Founding Fathers meant for their Sacred Honor to be less important than their Lives and their Fortunes?
