this is a work in progress.

This is my uncles gun, it's the old style Rossi .22 pump gallery gun with no safety pre 50s-60s I think? needless to say it needed help... we're talking about a gun that went through katrina stored in a carry-case. while the "gun was not in water the humidity was like 300%?".... but anyhoo it recently was decided to get it re-painted and re-done... So here I am. Btw there was not a single damn thing that was not rusted or pitted... the internals were a joke but I managed to save them. pins had to be replaced though. I always change to stainless pins anyway.

The stock had a cheap VERY dark stain in it and spray on poly clear coat..... removed all that crap and re-stained the wood, added alot of contrast, some fake/style grains, 4 colors and currently on it's 12th coat of tru-oil. "pics of the finished work soon"

I'll post some "after sandblasting" and "after filled and basecoated" pics soon.

My Rossi 62 is one of my favorite shooters. I got the carbine model for my boy when he was barely old enough about 22 years ago!. They are great fun guns!
BTW, congrats on tackling this project. It's coming along fine!
I'll be following your progress.
Can you share a little about the stain/dye? Looks great!

the stains are various mohawk stains. mixed a couple together here and there. the wood was just boring when it was natural. had no contrast, or color to it. Also addedsome dark walnut+ a little black to the inletting on the front grip. had to make a fake knot with some black to cover up a crack repair on front grip where the screw hole is.

never did get any before pictures of the bolt/carrier... had it soaking for days since it was rusted solid and the pins refused to come out.
