I'm planning on moving from my home state of Washington, to Oregon. I made this decision pretty recently, so I haven't had much time to research the Oregon gun laws too much, but I could really use some help in what permits I will or will not need.

Currently, I hold my Washington CCW permit (Resident) and since I've planning a bit of hiking and training in Oregon, I was going to get a Non-Res OR permit. Since I'll be moving there, probably after I take the training, where does that put me?

I won't have a permanent place to live in OR until probably mid October, and I'll be staying with an uncle for a little until then.

Do I need to give up my Washington carry permit? Is the sheriffs office required to be notified that I'm going to be living out of state for some time?

Can I still get an Oregon Non-Res permit? Since I won't officially be living there right away, do I have to get a Non-Res for now, and then apply for a Resident CCW when I get settled in?

If things go south, and I end up moving back to Washington, is there anything special I have to do in regards to my carry permits?

In addition to the Oregon and Washington laws (RCW and whatever Oregon has) where can I find more information that will help me answer my questions?

As always if theres anything I'm not making clear or needs to be further elaborated on, let me know and I'll do my best to correct the error.

Thanks guys!

Your Washington CPL stays exactly the same - no requirement to even change the address on it, if you don't want to.

Thanks Navy!

I'm planning on calling Sheriff Palmer in Grant County tomorrow (He is who I was going to get my non-res permit from) and see if I can just get my non-resident, and have that be good for the next couple years I'm in OR.

If anyone has any additional input, I'd be glad to hear it.

Thanks,

Going to Grant County is an excellent idea. They are very reasonable and efficient. I got my Oregon CCW from Sheriff Palmer.

That's what I've heard. My only concern is if I get a non res permit this week, then move to Portland in a couple months, do I need to get a regular permit, or am I good?

Sheriff Palmer is the guy...definately...second on what Navy stated..your WA CPL will be just fine. Res or non-res CPL, it will be just as valid. Oregon is an Open Carry state, with a twist...get your CHL and you can forget the twist. OR law is ORS 166. ORS 166.250 is CC prohibitions, ORS 166.260 is teh exceptions, and ORS 166.291 and ORS 166.292 are the license, and ORS 166.360 and 370 are also worth paying careful attention to.
