Resizing .38's for use in 9mm

I have plenty of .38 (357) JHP's but no 9mm JHP's on hand. I need to load upo a few hot 9mm hollowpoints and was thinking about running the 110gr .357's through my .355 resizing die. Would this work? I was a little conserned that the copper might have too much 'springback' and not take the resize.

Lube em and try it. If your die is .355, the bullets will come out a hair bigger, but .356 will be fine, and some 9MM's actually prefer a .356 bullet. I have shot plenty of .38 Super .356 bullets in 9MM guns.

It depends on which sizing die you have. A push through, such as a Star, or even a Lee, would work better for this. Just be sure to lube the bullets before you run them through the die or you'll gall the jackets. It will take more leverage to size the jacketed bullets than with lead bullets, but I've done it and it works.

You can load .357 diameter bullets in a 9mm. My old Hornady vol II had data for 125gr .357 hollow points in the 9mm so there's really no reason why you can't use 110gr bullets. If you have trouble seating them in the 9mm case without crushing the case during seating you could expand using the .38 spl expander. Work the loads up. Be conservative with charges as the larger diameter will likely cause increase in pressure.

The Speer 125 gr JHP would make an excellent 9mm load if your pistol will fuction properly with it. I have several hundred rounds of this bullet and a BHP and a Sig 226 in 9mm and intend to give them a try. My BHP is fussy with any bullets other then FMJ ones so I doubt if it will feed them but will try anyway. Report to follow.

I wouldn't recommed it, particularly for max. loads. H*ll, you should be able to find plenty of 9mm cases scattered all over the place at your local range.

.357" in 9mm: Make up dummies at different OAL to see if they chamber properly. My Beretta 92FS takes the slightly bulged brass just fine, but the 357 bullet jambs in the leade past the chamber and the slide won't close unless the bullet is seated REALLY deep. My old Glock 19 takes them, so does the Colt Series 70, but the S&W doesn't. Better check it first.

I have an EMP with a really tight chamber that almost certainly would not take .357 bullets, but most 9MM chambers are more forgiving.
